So after careful consideration and seeking opinions of my fellow Kossacks, I have just booked the last trip available. My children attend Georgia Virtual Academy, a homeschool approved and ran by the state of Georgia. In September they sent out a invitation for a DC trip during the Inauguration. I really wanted to do it but didn't want to waste the money if John McCain and Sarah Palin were standing up there. One thing led to another and I ended up missing the deadline. Here we are 3 months later with President Elect Barack Obama (don't you just LOVE hearing that?) set to take the stage January 20th. How sad and depressed was I after election day wishing I had booked that trip. But I am also resourceful...
The money for the trip was due yesterday. Given the current economy and the fact that some 50 million dumb asses voted for McCain/Palin I figured there might be a cancellation. I emailed the teacher and inquired as to the status of any cancellations. Much to my surprise I got in from work last night at 10 to find a reply. She had one cancellation and it was mine if I wanted it. Holy crap-what to do, what to do? Of course, my first idea was to write a diary asking YOU for advice. Almost everyone suggested I do it. My son is 11 and we busted our butts for Obama in Georgia for 9 months. We registered voters, went door to door and hosted 9 house parties for Barack Obama. Our county went 52% for Barack Obama-one of only 15 counties to do so in Georgia. I would like to thing we had something to do with that. After reading all your advice and learning that some people were driving from freaking California, I decided what the hell-it's only money, right. I called and booked our trip. We are leaving January 18th and staying through Thursday, January 22nd. Our transportation, hotel, breakfast and dinner are included. I am so excited. My son keeps running into the room saying, "Mom, who is the 44th president of the United States? And who is going to the Inauguration?" I will certainly need advice on what to wear (I hate the freaking cold), where to go, what to see, etc. from my fellow Kossacks. Also, I am hoping since we worked a lot on the campaign we may get invited to a party or two. I just had to share my good news with y'all.
P.S. If anyone wants to contribute to our fundraising (the packet cost $1600) please email me. Our goal is to raise at least $2000. gail@chadmcdonald.net
