Good morning once again.
Yesterday morning it was 18 degrees; this morning it is not even freezing. I think I read that this November has been the warmest on record. We wonder here if we will have a winter, or just a "winter".
In my 37 years of experiencing winter around here in northern New Mexico, there have been mild winters; OTOH there are rarely winters like they used to be. "Cold" used to mean an occasional dip down to 20 or more degrees below zero; the year I got here, 1971, saw a cold snap of minus 38 (!) and I have walked around at night back in that decade and experienced 25 below; that crackling sensation in your nostrils as your mucosae start to freeze.
But that was more than 30 years ago.
So "global warming", more properly called "global climate change", it seems to me, is manifesting as weather extremes getting more extreme. But, IANAC(limatologist), so what do I know?
What I am sure of is I am glad to be home this morning, rather than driving 85 miles to work (again). Hopefully, in two more weeks I will have my present project to a place where I can leave it for a couple of months.
Yes, the main house is finished, but we have started phase 3, remodeling the existing house on the property that the main and guest houses have been built on. I'll get into showing you that one one of these weeks, the old house being the usual owner built hodgepodge of adobe, hollow clay tile, and cinder block that locals scrounged up to build with back in the 40s and 50s.
Just wait, and I will show you wonders of just how funky one can build and get away with it, especially if there is no building inspector.
Meanwhile, another bit of eye candy:
The "breakfast nook", with heated banco and fireplace and mountain views out the windows.
And another glimpse of that outrageous bathtub, what they call a "double slipper"...
.
Welcome aboard.
