During the election, I worked for the Obama campaign in the 15th District of Ohio. Mary Jo Kilroy was neck-and-neck with Steve Stivers for the entire race, and Stivers emerged ahead by only a few hundred votes on election night. Now, after a protracted delay in the counting of thousands of provisional ballots, Kilroy has pulled ahead by 2,311 votes!
Franklin County elections officials released unofficial results Sunday that included about 24,000 outstanding provisional ballots, about 40 percent of which were cast by voters in the 15th Congressional District.
Kilroy received 139,582 votes to Stivers' 137,271, a big enough margin to avoid a recount.
Kilroy will be a progressive voice in the House, and will be the first Democrat in many years to represent Columbus, which was very effectively gerrymandered. Welcome, Congresswoman Kilroy!
