URGENT: Tell Obama that Duke's Jim Rogers Can NOT Be Energy Secretary
Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers is on the short list for Secretary of the U.S.
Energy Department, according to a Friday Washington Post article. A decision could be announced this week.
Rogers would not be "change we can believe in". As head of one of the
largest U.S. power companies, Rogers' idea of change is finding creative
ways to "green-wash" while building coal and nuclear plants and limiting
energy efficiency and renewables.
Environmental and consumer groups in states where Duke operates have been
challenging Rogers' actions, which grossly contradict his PR-crafted image
as a visionary concerned about climate change.
The nation's growing clean energy movement needs strong leadership at the
Department of Energy. We can and must make a hard turn toward energy
efficiency and renewable power in order to avert climate catastrophe, create
jobs and improve public health.
Jim Rogers is part of the problem, not part of the solution.
ACTION NEEDED TODAY: Tell the Obama Transition Team that Jim Rogers is more
"business-as-usual" and not "change we can believe in".
