Quite a few progressives in Alabama feel our state's largest newspapers are much more likely to expose alleged wrongdoing by Democrats than when the corruption shoe is on the Republican foot.
I've had a personal experience that makes me think these concerns are valid.
I met a few months back with a reporter from The Birmingham News about corruption involving Republican public officials--and an attorney with ties to the Alabama Republican Party--in Shelby County, where I live.
Nothing has come of that story, even though the wrongdoing can be proven simply by looking at public records. I've learned that GOP crooks aren't always too smart, and these guys made no effort to cover their tracks.
Meanwhile, the News has produced a steady stream of stories about alleged wrongdoing by Democrats, with the latest one involving Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford.
Does the press in Alabama take a "fair and balanced" approach to stories of public corruption? You can be the judge:

On a lighter note, just had to share this item with Kossacks who, in the wake of the presidential election, want to party like it's 1999:
It's Time for Democrats to Parrrrty!
