I’ve heard some rumblings about an increase in the national gas tax. Ok, we are going to need revenue, but to tax a necessity of our lives whose base price is controlled by a consortium of Middle Eastern oil companies ...scares the bejesus out of me.
(jump the broom with me)
If I were King for a day;
If I were King for a day, I’d tax Internet sells. With approximately 200 billion dollars a year in sales and a modest 5% federal sales tax, we’d raise 10 billion dollars annually ...it's a start.
If I were King for a day, I’d stop re-building the rest of the world. For the foreseeable future I’d scale back dramatically building another countries school, hospitals, roads ...etc. When we got our economy up and running again, then we’d talk.
If I were King for a day, I’d stop paying American farmers to let their land sit fallow and implement an aggressive food program. If we as a Christian nation want to change the world ...we would be better served sending 100# sacs of flour to the 3rd world than bullets and guns and our dollars.
If I were King for a day, I’d make sure that Blackwater and the like were called Mercenaries ...not Contractors. I’d tell our war machine that there would be no more outsourcing of the soldiers/services needed for our troops. Where a Blackwater mercenary is paid 120K year and gets better equipment and our boys get 35K a year and shit for equipment. Where companies like Haliburton are hired to procure the food and X Company to transport it and X Company to cook it and serve it. That’s why it costs $56.00 for bacon and eggs in Iraq.
If I were King for a day, for the foreseeable future I’d stop funding research projects with titles like the odysseys of the sex life of the tsetse fly. Research is important, but come on; there are huge saving opportunities, just hand me a red pencil.
If I were King for a day, I’d realize that comprehensive healthcare reform in these times might not be possible. But I’d make sure that I introduced the economy of scale to ALL employers. Where small business is not penalized for the size or ages of their group. Where a large company with a large group may pay $119 a month for a single white male and I pay $310 for the same man because of the size of my group. For now, that would be enough. I’d also make sure that not one child went without healthcare ...and we call ourselves a Christian nation.
If I were King for a day, I’d make sure that any company’s executive team whose stock is traded on Wall Street, that their compensation was not tied to its stock prices. These "people" who get stock options or stock as part of their compensation are not true management. The proof is in the pudding. They make more money when their stock prices rise ...you get that with a short-term business plan aimed at maximum profits ...not at a long-term business plan where steady growth and the health of your company and employees are at the heart of your mission. Greed is not good.
If I were King for a day ... oh damn, must take my temporary crown off and head out to feed the babies (go to work).
I have it on good authority that the new Administration visits us regularly ...maybe you’ve got a King for a day wish ...have at it, we are all ears.
