Remember Donnie McClurkin? He's the anti-gay gospel singer who performed at one of Obama's campaign events way back in October 2007.
Here's a small sample of comments and diaries from back then.
From Marching Order's diary, entitled Obama keeps McClurkin, loses me (w/poll):
Once again, the "ex-gay" gospel singer Obama's campaign can't seem to live without strikes a blow against his critics and once again promulgates his asinine view that religion can "cure" homosexuality.
...
To keep it short and sweet: If Obama's campaign can't live without this homophobic jackass, then I can't support Obama.
From Cali Techi's diary, entitled Why I can't vote for Obama:
That's when Obama lost me. I decided at that point he was no longer qualified for consideration for my vote. Today I was given a slight glimmer of hope that I may reconsider when Obama seemed to do the right thing and called African American evangelicals on their lack of tolerance for LGBT people, however that glimmer has faded. Why? because yet another culturally conservative African American minister Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell will be campaigning in support of Barack Obama.
From gladkov's diary, entitled Sorry Barack Obama - It's just not good enough:
Barack Obama is being cowardly. He wants votes from people so he wants to get them by playing into biggotry and hatred. This is a man of vision?
Comment by Corwin Weber:
McClurkin is the major reason I'm still not entirely behind Obama. He still has to convince me that he's not going to be Bill Clinton with better impulse control. As of yet, he hasn't done so.
Comment by grinaldi (and my personal favorite):
[Obama] has not shown leadership in this affair [LGBT rights], he has shown, at best, incompetence. He could win the election, sign ENDA, integrate the military and perform a marriage for me and my partner in the Rose Garden and he still would have lost my vote. That is how dangerous I think Pastor McClurkin is.
That same day grinaldi posted a diary, entitled Dear Barack:
You have lost my vote. And not just in the primary (where, I must admit, I was already planning on voting for Senator Edwards) but in the general. Not the general election next November; you lost any shot at the nomination – and the Vice Presidency -- last week. No, you lost my vote in 2012, in 2016 in 2020.
Senator Obama, you have lost my vote forever.
According to their user histories, every single one of those diarists/commenters ended up expressing support for Obama.
