I am very sorry for the pain our GLBT friends are experiencing during what should be a time of great celebration.
I would like to make a suggestion as to just one way those of us who are angry with the decision to give a homophobe a platform at Obama's inauguration can voice our concern. I believe we need to make sure that all progressives, liberals, or Democrats know that this is important to us, without withdrawing from the party/movement.
I would ask that everyone who realizes how hurtful and hateful this is to our GLBT brothers and sisters please change your signature to one that expresses support for FULL EQUALITY for the GLBT community, or that specifically addresses and supports gay marriage. I know there are many issues we all need to support, so I'm not asking for a permanent change.
Perhaps we could all carry these sigs until Obama's inauguration is over, or alternatively, as I plan to do, until Obama enacts his first piece of gay friendly legislation or executive orders (repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"?)
I'm not asking people to abandon Obama, but I am asking you to realize the hurt and pain this has caused too many of our brothers and sisters. When someone has been hurt by an act of meanness or neglect, it is the least we can do to offer a small act of support to try to counter that meaness with kindness.
UPDATE:All this post did was ask for people to put gay-friendly signatures on this site. It didn't ask anyone to denounce Obama, (or even Warren for that matter).
So let's be clear, japhyryder79, jj24, and AKMask have come into this gay-friendly thread and taken great issue with the idea of putting up gay-friendly sigs in solidarity with the pain our GLBT brothers and sisters are feeling. I don't see how that is any different than saying we should NOT put gay-friendly messages in our signatures.
