My girlfriend went home for Christmas and found out that an elderly couple she knows is about to be evicted from their home. She's trying to do something about it--can you help too? Here's her note:
------------
Dear friends,
I'm writing to you with an urgent problem. The parents of a childhood friend of mine, Barbara and Maurice Wells, are losing their home. These are small business owners who foster children with special needs and are active members of their church.
Last year Barbara suffered a massive stroke, and the medical bills nearly bankrupted them. One of her surgeries cost over $147,000. She couldn't work, and they had to close their business. Now their home is in foreclosure, and they will be evicted Jan. 6 if they don't pay the mortgage payments they owe--just $11,000.
Barbara and Maurice are almost 70 years old, and Barbara's health is still fragile. They've maxed out all their credit cards and can't get more. They have no money. It will take only $11,000 to save their home, and we've already raised over $2,000!
Can you please click here and donate to the fund to save the Wells' home?

To make everything worse, their daughter (my friend) is a single parent with a 6-year-old son. She recently lost her job and can't find another one. So right now she and her son are living with Barbara and Maurice, as well as their severely mentally disabled daughter. When the bank evicts them on January 6, all five of them will be homeless.
I didn't learn about all this until I came home for Christmas. I know that the economy is in crisis everywhere. I know this is a time when many people are suffering. But this is one family we can help. I've known them since I was eight years old. They have always, always given back to the community, and it's time we gave back to them.
Any help very, very, very much appreciated. Thank you so much.
Stephanie

Foster Parent Spotlight - Charlottesville Office
Barbara and Maurice Wells celebrated their 10 year anniversary as foster parents with DePaul this year! We are so very thankful for all of the time, dedication and support they have offered to DePaul's children over the years! The Wells have provided both full-time and respite placements in their home and have had more than ten children benefit from their parenting.
