Flood Phila. Bulletin with Comments on Clinton Econ. Lie

TPM's The Horses' Mouth lets us know that the bogus Clinton says slow down the economy lie continues to be circulated and misrepresented in major papers.

Most egregiously, the Philadelphia Bulletin actually has a story with the headline: Bill Clinton Wants Economic Slowdown.  What Clinton actually said was

And maybe America, and Europe, and Japan, and Canada -- the rich counties -- would say, 'OK, we just have to slow down our economy and cut back our greenhouse gas emissions 'cause we have to save the planet for our grandchildren.' We could do that.

But if we did that, you know as well as I do, China and India and Indonesia and Vietnam and Mexico and Brazil and the Ukraine, and all the other

countries will never agree to stay poor to save the planet for our grandchildren. The only way we can do this is if we get back in the world's fight against global warming and prove it is good economics that we will create more jobs to build a sustainable economy that saves the planet for our children and grandchildren. It is the only way it will work."

Oviously, Clinton is saying the opposite of the headline and the excerpted quote.  (ABC still has a headline "Bill Clinton: Slow Economy To Save Planet")

Please take a moment to comment on the Bulletin article and email the author of the column ([e-mail].) demanding that there be an immediate retraction and correction.

[Note -- I'm not doing this for Clinton partisan reasons.  in fact, I support Obama.  This is not a partisan issue.  It's vitally important to let these idiots know in force that we know they are lying or grossly sloppy.]

      Years ago there was a major paper in Philadelphia called The Evening Bulletin. That shut down in the 80's, leaving the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News as the only major newspapers in town (both owned by the same company). A few years ago someone started up a new fairly low circulation paper with the name "The Bulletin".

      years ago. The only major daily papers in the city are the Inquirer and Daily News both I think are McKlachy (sp?) papers. See Philly.com

            nearly a year ago. The quality of the writing in the paper was declining as was the quality of the service.

  It's a familiar name because there once was a major daily in Philadelphia called the Bulletin.

  But this is not it.

  The original folded back in the '80s. A few years back, some Philly area wingnut with more money than brains bought the rights to the name and has been diligently sinking time and cash into this stupid, unread venture.

  I have never seen a print copy, and as far as I know it exists only online. And it is read only by the same zealots who frequent Free Republic and the Rush Limbaugh show.

  I wouldn't get very concerned about this; nobody except us and a handful of right-wing kooks is going to see it.

  The speech actually shows that Clinton does not get the situation but buys into the Bush orthodoxy that in order to lower CO2 emissions it is necessary to shrink the economy.

  What Europe, in the shape of the Commission is saying is that significant reductions can be achieved and that the technology necessary to do this will drive growth in the economy. The destruction of the US auto makers markets shows that sticking with business as usual means recession. Auto manufacturers producing alternative and dual fuel motors are growing. A micro-economic example maybe but it demonstrates that Bush/Clinton thinking is stuck pre-Gore.
