CALL TO ACTION -- Super Sunday at the Obama Phonebank

Sun Feb 10, 2008 at 07:07:24 AM PDT

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us Earlier this week, I was on a conference call with the National Call Team from the Obama campaign to review nationwide phonebanking strategy for the next few days.  Durng the call, the campaign expressed an urgent need for calls to be made into Louisiana and Washington, which as you all know by now, held their caucuses and primaries yesterday.

Among others, we heard from the Louisiana State Director, who was particularly concerned that, given all of the hype surrounding Super Tuesday, many  dems in LA we not even aware that there was a primary in the state yesterday. The campaign had a great presence in the state but needed increased levels of phonebanking to boost awareness and GOTV.

On Wednesday, all stripes of Obama supporters, calling from the comfort of their homes or offices -- and some in their jammies -- made 10,000 phone calls into these two states.  On Thursday, they racked up another 12,000. And Friday was another banner calling campaign day that included a merry, motivated band of kossacks, who answered the campaign's call to reach out to caucus-goers and voters in not just LA and WA, but Maine and Nebraska, too.  And yesterday, we did it again in spades, and were on the rec list for most of the day:  Call to Action -- Obama campaign needs your help NOW!

Well, we all know the end to most of that story this AM.  It was a blowout for Barack in LA, NE and WA.

Maine will caucus today and its going to be a tough one for us, which is why we still need your help connecting with supporters there and getting them out to caucus/vote.

On Tuesday, February 12, we have another chance at a trifecta, when DC, MD and VA hold their caucuses and primaries.  These are biggies, folks -- especially MD and VA.  We have lots of dedicated kossacks doing their thing on the ground in these states, but they need our firepower, our phone power to back them up NOW.

Last night, the campaign posted the following on the home page of the website:

We have set a goal of 10,000 calls to Maine and 40,000 overall calls tomorrow. Do your part. Pick up the phone...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us So let's have another great day today and plow through 20,000 names before the day is finished. If just 1000 Obama supporters on DailyKos were to each make just twenty phone calls -- that's about an hour's worth of work for each of us -- we could could get it done in a flash. We have all day and evening today, and it is the last day before the Potomac Primaries when legions of us are just sitting around blogging in our jammies all day and night, so let's put it to good use. Yes. We. Can.

In order to begin calling, just go to the campaign's state-of-the art online calling tool.

You get twenty names at a time, an outline of scripts for your particular state and more.  You can easily open the backgrounder and issues pages simultaenously to have all the information you need at your fingertips.  Also, the home page of the website has a link to FAQ's for Maine, with great information like polling places, the fact that caucus times are staggered, the very important fact that independents and unaffiliateds and unregistered voters can register today, etc.

And finally -- and this is muy, muy importante people -- if you speak Spanish, you can begin calling into the great state of Texas by linking to the campaign's Spanish-language calling tool directed specifically at TX.  If you want to get jazzed about TX, have a look at Kath25's great diary from last night with an on-the-ground report about Texans for Obama and the gargantuan grassroots organizing going on across the state.

And don't miss the pic of Barack in a Stetson.  Whoa...

If you've never done it, it's easy and it's fun to phonebank , and it WILL make the difference we need NOW.

Obama supporters maintain a critical mass on DailyKos and we have the opportunity to make a huge contribution via online phonebanking over the next few weeks, as the number and schedule of contests allows the campaign's and our efforts to be more focused and protracted.

Make some calls now, please, and comment below to let us know that you are on board, and to share your experiences and encourage others to join our effort today.

Yes. We. Can.

Si. Se. Puede.

Unfortunately, I need to go out for several hours today and won't be able to answer questions and comment as readily as I have been over the last few days.  But we do have some regulars "attending" our phonebanks now and lots of folks with lots of experience -- and enthusiasm!  So if any of y'all can cover me from about 10AM - 2PM EST, I would be much obliged (I'm practicing my Texas-talk today :)  I will be back later to dole out mojo and cheer us on as we bring it home for Barack in ME, DC, MD and the Commonwealth of Virginia!
