Blackberry service jammed

According to CNN Radio all Blackberries have been hit with an unknown outage problems.

I don't have one but I'm sure there are plenty of folks here that do.

From Yahoo news minutes ago

NEW YORK - A major service outage afflicted users of the popular, addictive BlackBerry smart phones across the United States and Canada on Monday, wireless carriers said.

Officials with AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless said BlackBerry maker Research in Motion Ltd. told them customers of all wireless carriers were affected.

It was not immediately clear how many BlackBerry subscribers had problems, as some users reported being able to access their service normally Monday afternoon.

Of course, if you access dkos via your Blackberry, you're SOL right now.

    I am often concerned of how easy it would be to shut this country down since nobody knows their neighbors anymore. Shut down the internet and phones and this country stops functioning. Another thing. Since the 80s the government has been quietly confiscating steel and cast iron from farmers and landowners and junkyards in the name of "beautification". Often the items stolen by legal fiat are not able to be seen except by air via satellite or plane thus the "eyesore" argument is just bullshit. The point is that all of that metal has been shipped out of the country by the multinationals. What exactly are we supposed to use when or if we are ever attacked and need to manufacture our own war weapons and vehicles? Is it just incompetent greed or an active conspiracy? Either way it is making us less safe.

  Apparently the TSA can demand you show them the contents of the electronic files on your laptop - just as if it was a briefcase. They can copy whatever they want. Got any sensitive documents, photographs, etc.?? Think twice before bringing them along on your password-protected laptop.

  I sure hope the ACLU is looking at this because it's total bullshit.

    It appears it's Customs and Border Control and not the TSA.

    According to the TSA's blog:

    TSA does not and will not confiscate laptops or other electronic devices at our checkpoints. Our officers’ are solely focused on the safety of the traveling public and are looking for explosives and other prohibited items. Should one of our officers find something suspicious, we will immediately contact local law enforcement and potentially the local bomb squad. We will not ask for any password, access to any files or take the laptop from you for longer than it takes to determine if it contains a threat.

    Should anyone at a TSA checkpoint attempt to confiscate your laptop or gain your passwords or other information, please ask to see a supervisor or screening manager immediately.

    My apologies.

    I hope that Customs gets this straightened out - and by that I mean stops doing this. AFAIC they have no business looking at the contents of anyone's laptop unless they've done something very serious. This is really going too far.
