Hillary Starts "Delegate Hub" Website

After ten losses in a row, what else would you expect from her highness?

Hillary was heard last night to mutter:

They'll pry this nomination from my dead, cold hands!!!

From ABC Blog "Political Punch" we get this wonderful news:

Clinton Campaign Sets Up Website to Push to Change the Rules

This morning brings the news that the campaign of Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, has launched a new website where they are announcing how they are officially preparing to make the case that the rules of the Democratic nomination process should be changed.

Oh, I remember when I was about 14 years old.  I was playing tennis with my friend Darryl, and I kept hitting it wide.  He was up four games on me, and I was desperate.  So, I stopped the match and demanded that the court be widened by a foot all the way around.

His response:  Bwahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, you can't change the rules in the middle of the game!!!???

And so says Political Punch writer, Jake Tapper (has to be a fake name, no?):

But then comes this juicy non-fact:

"FACT: Florida and Michigan should count, both in the interest of fundamental fairness and honoring the spirit of the Democrats' 50-state strategy."

That's not a fact, that's an opinion.

And it's clear evidence (not that there was any mystery about it) that the Clinton campaign is trying to change the rules in the middle of the game.

Wait, it gets worse........

Clinton's own senior adviser, Harold Ickes, voted as a member of the DNC committee to not recognize these two state delegations because they violated the rules of the primary scheduling process. Now as a Clinton campaign representative he's making the case that they should count.

    on the page.  I had to go look up what an "automatic delegate" was.  Turns out, it doesn't exist.

    It's a figment of Ickes' imagination.

      Notice the lack of quotations around automatic delegates.

  When Bush says "the economy is strong", it is strong for his wealthy friends.  When he says the surge is working, he means, "whatever is actually happening in Iraq does not matter to me as much as what I am hoping for."
  Clinton's "path" to a delegate victory is non-existent.  The delegate hub looks like it was written by Ari Fleischer.

  I keep telling people that Hillary's not as bad as many seem to think, but this makes that job much more difficult.  I defend her as a Edwards guy who switched to Obama that has had great respect for Hillary as well.  Please Hillary, don't make me lose respect fro you.

    I've sent an email. I tried to appeal to her sense of preserving her own dignity. I was careful to note that I think she has a lifetime of service behind her and that it's a shame to wash al that away by destroying the election process and damaging the chances of women having such a good chance to even run in the future. I hope others will, too.

    I doubt that she reads any comments that aren't supportive. I'm thinking that given the campaign management she has, that this feedback is filtered. They so clearly block any dissonant voices in all their comment threads. But, perhaps, if enough of us do, she'll start to get the message....

•  the U.S. is not a true democracy

  many think it SHOULD be, but it is not.  The Electoral College is quite an arcane relic, and is undemocratic. If not for the EC, Gore would have been President in 2000.

  Look at the way individual states have "gerrymandered" the congressional districts, and devised complicated formulas for awarding delegates (Texas is coming up, which is quite arcane I am told).

  Then there are the caucuses, attended by only the most ardent supporters, not exactly "representative democracy".

  Finally, there are the Superdelegates, just another example of the same theme.  

  If some want to change the system, let them act to do so.  But to whine that "it isn't fair" (when of course it isn't fair, the whole damn system isn't FAIR).

  Was it "fair" to have the Florida Sec of State and Bush supporter counting the votes in 2000?  Was it fair to have Ken Blackwell Ohio Sec of State and Bush supporter counting the votes in Ohio 2004?  There SHOULD be "conflict of interest laws" but apparently there AREN'T.

  "Fairness" is a good goal, but it doesn't seem to be the reality of American politics.  It certainly isn't the reality on the Republican side. And therefore won't change anytime soon.  Even in the minority, Republicans still make up a large fraction of the country.

  Hell, would anybody have predicted Huckabee winning five states two weeks ago?  The McCain people want him out, but he has every right to stay in.

  Hillary can still win the nomination. Maybe less likely than Obama, but this season has had a lot of twists and turns.
