Welcome to Top Comments, that daily space where we recognize comments made in the past 24 hours that for whatever reason are just too good to let fall by the wayside.

If you find a notable comment during the day click the date/time stamp to get a direct link, copy it then send to topcomments at gmail dot com by 9:30PM Eastern! Don't forget to include your screen name so we can credit you! Anyone can submit comments- if you didn't do so today, please give it a try tomorrow!

Mining for comments is rumored to boost your immune system's ability to fight concern trolls. (disclaimer: This product will not provide you with additional donuts to share. Not FDA approved. See your doctor if side effects last more than four hours)

Please take charge of your health and mail those comments in today!

I have managed to avoid, so far, getting sick this winter. I've had a cold, but not anything more serious. Yes, I say this while holding a container of antiseptic handwash in one hand and a packet of AirBorne in the other :-). What about you? ...

Casa Brillig is usually good for at least a few colds, one really bad sore throat, and a stomach virus or two during the winter. In the summer, we sear like tuna on a charcoal chimney. When we need to, we're fans of good old-fashioned modern medicine, don't worry. But like all families, we have our share of Traditional Family Remedies for the symptoms that ail us. It's those that we're talking about tonite!

First up is my favorite remedy for the many symptoms of the common cold. I know what you're thinking... chicken soup. Make no mistake, chicken soup is a mainstay when we're not feeling well. But when the back of my throat is sore from the post-nasal drip, I reach for Tom Yum, aka Thai Hot & Sour soup. Soup concentrate is available in the supermarket, and with the addition of mushrooms and chicken/tofu makes a lovely-tasting meal that fries everything off your tonsils. Ahhhh...

When cough medicine just isn't working (which is most of the time, face it) we reach for one particular brand of "herbal cough tea". Sweetened with honey, it works wonders even though to me it tastes like brewed hay with extra grass clippings. Kid Brillig had a nasty cough last year and we tried everything we or the doctor could think of. In the end, we made this tea. She quite literally gagged it down, complaining bitterly the entire time. BUT- she got the first good night's sleep in several nights.

Everyone's got their remedy for hiccups. I don't use a paper bag, or drink upside down, or take a spoonful of sugar. Sounds stupid, but I visualize the hiccups going away. I concentrate hard enough while telling myself that I do not have the hiccups, and they go away. works better than my hub's favorite method when we were dating... he'd look over my shoulder and say "is that N&J?" N&J being my ex-boyfriend and his new love. THAT worked all the time initially but lost its power pretty quick :-).

I could go on all nite with our family remedies, but I want to hear yours. Share your collective wisdom with everyone, and we'll all be happy, healthy and ready to whip some Republican butt all the way to November!

And now, on to Top Comments!! Everybody wash your hands well with soap and water or the antiseptic gel before we touch the TC mailbox (topcomments at gmail dot com, I know you know this!). Let's see what goodies we have waiting for us:

From ben masel:

In slinkerwink's diary How Mark Penn Drove The Clinton Bus Into The Ditch came puffy66's politics-as-poker analogy Pride - It Comes Before The Fall...

From noweasels:

In Kagro X's story "Lost" WH emails to stay "lost", discocarp insists that Congress does have a spine.

From Man in the Middle:

In kos's story Rove: don't "Hussein" Obama, RossBleakney has a great thumbnail of Rove's modus operandi, with a touch of Franz Sanchez.

My humble gleanings:

In desmoinesdem's diary A year without Steve Gilliard, martianchronic says exactly what I was thinking. Go read the entire diary, folks, especially those of you who weren't around back then.

In KaritaHummer's diary What is left for a disappointed Edwards’ Supporter to do?, alwaysquestion points out the wrong way to woo supporters from other candidates.

In Paleo's diary Obama shoves Iraq down McCain's throat, Deward Hastings sneaks a peek at the guest list Down There.

Please add your favorite comments, recipes, remedies and other goodies!!
