Lieberman campaigns with GOP frontrunner; cheers Alito

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 10:55:26 AM PDT

Was anyone just watching CNN's coverage of John McCain's speech?  In the background was none other than Joementum, Bush loyalist and failed presidential candidate.

When McCain got to the part in his stump speech about confirming Alito and Roberts, the camera panned to Joe who was clapping wildly.

Did anyone else see that?

  •  Yeah, saw it (10+ / 0-)

I saw Joe clapping enthusiastically when McCain said he'd appoint "strict constructionist judges who won't legislate from the bench".

    Nauseating.

Dems have a clear majority in Congress and can kick the guy to the curb (ie the republican party).  Here's hoping we don't have any Dems that will still stand by Joe.

Barack Obama - I'll never see the threat of terrorism as a way to scare up votes, it's a threat that should rally this country against our common enemies

Meanwhile, while Shays and Lieberman are campaigning for 100 more years in Iraq and more right-wing extremists on SCOTUS, Ned Lamont and John Kerry are campaigning for Obama in Bridgeport, CT, one town over.

    CT Democratic Party:

Statement by Chairwoman Nancy DiNardo Regarding Senator Lieberman’s Campaign Appearance in Connecticut with Senator McCain. 02.01.2008

"I continue to be disappointed beyond words with Joe Lieberman, as are a lot of Connecticut Democrats -- saddened, surprised, and truly disheartened by just how completely he has abandoned the Democratic principles that have guided him over the years and the Party whose members have supported him and helped him achieve his goals. As recently as 18 months ago, Senator Lieberman was telling us Democrats that he shares our values, and with the exception of Iraq, that he agrees with us on the issues we care so much about -- critically important issues like a woman’s right to choose, tax and economic policies, healthcare and education. Moreover, in July of 2006, Senator Lieberman even stated that he intended to work to help a Democrat get into the White House in 2008. His endorsement of Senator McCain means he either doesn’t care about the issues noted above, or he’s putting politics ahead of people. If you look at Senator McCain’s voting record, and campaign platform – on these, and many other issues we care about – you’ll understand why I am saying this. This is a man, Senator McCain, who proudly says he was a "foot soldier" in the Reagan Revolution. Senator McCain is wrong on the issues we Democrats care so much about—and he’s wrong by a lot. I am proud to stand with my fellow Democrats and announce that we as a Party will grow stronger and do everything in our power to make sure a Democrat is elected in November, " said Nancy DiNardo, Chairwoman, CT. Democratic Party.

    CT Opposes the War:

Fairfield, CT - This afternoon hundreds of protesters kicked off their Super Bowl Sunday by blitzing the biggest congressional cheerleaders of George Bush's War in Iraq. The protest was in response to a campaign rally held for Senator John McCain at the Sacred Heart University Athletic Center, where McCain was joined by fellow pro-war members of Congress, Joe Lieberman and Rep. Chris Shays.

"Connecticut and the rest of the American public are strongly opposed to the McCain, Lieberman, Shays, Bush war in Iraq and are definitely opposed to spreading that war to Iran," said John Murphy of COW. "The looming recession proves that we can’t afford to continue their shopping sprees in Baghdad while ignoring pressing needs like health care here at home," continued Murphy referring to their Groundhog Day like statements declaring progress after each of their frequent visits.

The protesters, organized by CT Opposes the War (COW - http://ctcow.civicspaceondemand.org/... held signs plastered with McCain’s own "stay the course" statements through the years to his most recent pro-war presidential campaign statements

because come November we won't need his vote to make a majority, and he won't have any more committee assignments.

Either that, or Harry Reid gets primaried in 2010...

And I have trouble deciding which one is worse for America.

Okay, I guess I'll also go with Joe "Benedict Arnold" Lieberman.

To a Democrat, "democracy" means "free elections." To a Republican, "free markets."

The day after the Connecticut primary, when Lieberman said that the results "would not stand", Capitol Hill Democrats should have publicly endorsed Ned Lamont and roundly condemned Lieberman as a sore loser who put personal ambition ahead of his party.

    They didn't. Shame on them.
