CA-04: It was Friday, and Beauregard Entered Shiloh (photos)

Friday, February 1, 2008.  Republican Doug Ose, the formerly retired Representative of a different district, announced his candidacy on the steps of the Placer County, Auburn Courthouse for the CA- 04 Congressional seat being vacated by scandal- plagued John Doolittle

Shiloh is a Hebrew word meaning "Place of Peace."
On April 6 and 7, 1862, Confederate General Johnston and General Beauregard, his second in command, launched a surprise attack on Union forces at Shiloh, Tennessee,  and nearly defeated them before reinforcements arrived from the Army of the Ohio, and Generals Grant and Buell forged a successful counterattack.

Isn't it lovely? This is Auburn's most famous landmark, built in 1894 thru 1898. The style is called "Classic Revival"  and the famous dome is visible to drivers on the nearby interstate. http://www.auburn-ca.com/...

Well, It's a Good Thing They Come With Labels !
This, however, is not solving our problem. Just which one of these is Beauregard, er, Doug Ose, the retired former Representative of Federal CA- 03 ?  Just where is three ?

Here is a map of CA- 03, "Beau's" former district:  http://www.sen.ca.gov/...

It has Alpine, Calaveras, part of Amador, part of Sacramento, and a piece of Solano county in it.
Doug Ose served 3 terms in CA- 03, from 1999 to Jan 2005, and then decided to time himself out and send in his sister,  Mary Ose, who then got into a primary battle extraordinaire with Rico Oller and they both lost the Republican Primary in 2004 to... Dan Lungren.

See how it doesn't look anything like CA- 04?  Here is CA- 04:    http://www.sen.ca.gov/...

Federal CA- 04 has, from top to bottom, Modoc, Lassen, Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, Placer, El Dorado, a tiny little bit of Sacramento and a bite out of eastern Butte counties. It is NORTH of CA- 03.
If you think you've read this somewhere before, recently, you did, I wrote this last week when I wrote about former state assemblyperson Thomas "Rico" Oller entering the Republican Primary for CA- 04.   Rico Oller has lived in San Andreas in Calaveras County for 20 years and in the past, represented the state version of CA- 03.  Link to that handy dandy diary:   http://www.dailykos.com/...

Ah, Gee Whiz, is that current CA- 03 Rep.  Dan Lungren here at this thing, too ?  Give us a break! That's Lungren at the microphone. From left to right, Doug Ose, Mrs. Ose, Republican Authority figure, Bear on the CA state Flag, Lungren,  Scary Looking Republican Female.

Republican Candidate is now allowed to speak on Courthouse Steps.
"My wife told me I didn't have any friends, but as you see today, she was wrong. This is my wife, Lynnda, but everybody calls her "Sam."   ( ARC note: Sam doesn't look too chipper today. )

"Standing here today on the steps of this courthouse reminds me of how I stood on the steps of the Capitol after 9/11 " (when I was a Congressman... ) "
( Okay, there's the 9/11 reference. )  Synopsis:
It's very important to keep the seat out of Democratic hands.
My friends have been criminally stalked.
Help set new course.
Rebuild economy.
More jobs.
Secure borders. Fence good.
Restore faith in our government.
Need to regain Republican Majority in Congress.  Lungren would then be Chairman of a committee.
Strong National Defense.
"We need to have faith as Reagan said, America's greatest days are ahead of her."
"I was proud to vote for one of the greatest tax cuts in history."  ... "the moment is today to set a new course for America. Now. Today. Thank you."

The Republican Male Authority Figures doing the intros said that the most important thing Beauregard Ose voted for the biggest tax decrease in modern history which also ended the marriage penalty.  Ose was previously elected to Congress in Nov 1998, during President B Clinton's last term, and stayed until January 2005, the beginning of the second GW Bush term.
When put in this context, it is more interesting that he barely missed the start of B Clinton's Impeachment, which began Dec 19, 1998, but was there for Senate trial during which the Republican House members on the Judiciary Committee served as "managers."  Although Ose was not on that Committee he was of the Party performing the manuever.  He also helped pave the way for the election of Bush and the defeat of Gore, was there during 9/11, as he said in his speech, saw the beginning of the Afghan and Iraq Wars and was on vacation  during Hurricane Katrina with the rest of the lot of them.  He also was in office during the same time Rep John Doolittle was on the Appropriations Committee.  One of the more astonishing claims from another speaker  I heard during Friday's announcement of candidacy was that, if elected, the Republicans were going to treat Ose as if he had seniority and put him on a committee, and then another one piped up and said that he was going to go on Appropriations, and that Lungren was going to chair another one, probably Judiciary.

The thought of a new Democratic President having to deal with a Republican majority and these two Impeachment junkie jokers on the 2 most powerful committees in Congress ought to give anyone a serious shiver up their spine.

Although Ose, a real estate developer and mini storage mastermind,  has kept a fairly low public profile since his first retirement from Congress, when he said he was going to keep to his pledge to only serve 3 terms, that doesn't mean he hasn't been politically oblivious.  He has been a generous source of cash donations to the Abramoff scandal plagued Rep. John Doolittle of CA- 04, whom he wishes to replace, and others: (this is only a sample from the FEC)  Notice how many of these donations were made AFTER the FBI raided Doolittle's house in VA on April 13, 2007.

Doug Ose has kept almost a half million dollars sitting in his Doug Ose For Congress 98  Federal Campaign Donations Account since 2004, according to the last quartlerly report filed Oct 2007. ($462,745 ) The source of the money, which the local news articles did not mention, was an ongoing loan made in 1998 from .... himself.  Doug Ose also loaned himself nearly a million and a half dollars in campaign money in that past run for Congress for that 1998 run for CA- Three out of "personal funds."
2/02/98  $495,000
5/06/98  $505,000
5/26/98  $100,000
9/02/98  $130,000
9/30/98  $100,000
10/28/98  $100,000
____________
$1,430,000  in 1998 dollars. Not adjusted for inflation.

This does not take into account the other Ose family members who would be also giving him donations outright.

Don't forget Doug Ose's sister, Mary.  Mary Ose's generous contributions to herself in her losing Primary battle with Rico Oller and Dan Lungren back in 2004, when she tried to replace Doug:

01/12/2004 $ 3044.00 24990533372
04/13/2004  16000.00 24961789833
04/13/2004  59500.00 24961789833
06/30/2004 100000.00 24961789833
06/30/2004 100000.00 24961789834
06/30/2004 100000.00 24961789835
06/30/2004 150000.00 24961789834
06/30/2004 441000.00 24961789834
___________
$ 878,544

This isn't all of it but I have to stop somewhere.  I am wondering just how much oblivion "Beau" Ose thinks CA- 04 voters exist in, to believe that someone who so richly supported the last un indicted Abramoff money benefactor during the time said un indictee was trying to hide his ongoing DOJ investigation from the media and public, is actually going to Washington to help "clean up."  Then he's implying they all need another tax break.

Let me suggest the new Beauregard Ose Campaign Motto:
"John Doolittle deserves a tax break just like normal, law abiding citizens. Help send me to DC to DeNy he Did Anything Wrong and Make Sure He Gets One."

I read in a very recent AP article that Doug Ose had given John Doolittle $2000 towards his legal defense fund. While that is sweet, I feel the AP article is deliberately under reporting the amount of cash flowing from Family Ose to Family Doolittle, because Julie Doolittle was still collecting 15%  of campaign donations during 2007 claiming it was back pay owed to her from the campaign of 2006.  These payments to Julie may be verified by studying the amended financial documents of the quarterly reports Doolittle filed during 2007.
Just from a simple search on "Ose" in the FEC donations I find at least $11,000 of Ose Family money going within the last 2 campaign cycles to Doolittle, which at 15% would be an additonal $1,700 going to Julie Doolittle.  If anyone is keeping count....

A Group Hug was called for.  Ose is the one in the dark suit and red tie.
Just now it occurs to me, as I look at this photo of the Republicans posing for the afterglow, that several of the spookier looking, grim countenanced,  larger sized young dudes in the leather jackets and/or and sunglasses and goatees that had been hanging around the periphery checking things out bugged out during this part and are nowhere to be found.  I am wondering if they were all undercover security because the sherriff was there, or undercover security to pad the press photo opp for ABC Channel 10 Sacramento. http://www.news10.net/... Could some be undercover Republican bloggers ?

With Doug "Beauregard" Ose now declaring himself to be in the race to replace Doolittle, this is how the Republican Primary looks now for CA- 04:

• Eric Egland, "security consultant" and Fox News commentator (is officially in)
• Theodore Terbolizard, the Ron Paulian Paleo Republican Libertarian, (is officially in)
• Thomas "Rico" Oller, "insulation blower" (is now officially filed in)
• Doug Ose, ex Congressman from CA- 03,  "real estate $$$$$" (has declared)

The Democrat who came within 3 points of upsetting Doolittle in 2006 and whom Doolittle cut and run on for 2008: Democrat (and retired USAF Lt Col)  Charlie Brown:
http://www.charliebrownforcongress.org/

Here is Democrat Charlie Brown's official reaction to entry of recycled Republicans Oller and Ose into the CA- 04 race:

“We welcome Doug Ose and Rico Oller to this race, and to the 4th Congressional District.  We believe that once both move into the district, they will grow to understand that voters are not looking for more partisan attacks, but leadership that puts the interests of this district and our country first.  Ultimately, the values of the 4th District, and the challenges facing our great nation demand leaders willing to put patriotism before partisanship, and I am proud to have dedicated my career in public service---for 26 years in the military, 8 years with the Roseville Police Department, as a parent, and now as a candidate for Congress--- to this singular cause.”--Charlie Brown, Lt. Col. USAF Ret., Candidate for Congress, CA 04, 2/1/08

Three down, four to go.

  •  Tip jar, say, is there a football game today? (12+ / 0-)

... I feel like my brain just did the HTML version of the Superbowl, complete with penalties, offside kicks and hail Mary's, and now I'm hungry.

If you could see how this computer is wired up to get the internet signal right now you'd laugh your butt off, too.

You know the drill. Find the typos, remember us here in CA- 04 as we beseech thee...  Democrats don't let carpetbagger Republicans just buy their own Congressional Districts !

.... all my original photos have all these black leather or black suit jacket shoulders cropped out of the edges from trying to worm my shorter self in there between all the sheriff dept. narcs to get a picture. The MSM press was shooting right into the sun, and I don't have the camera filters to do that.

I thought, I better get some stock shots of Ose now because it's not like these Repubs will be appearing in free access venues during the campaign.

It is said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting the same result.  They actually believe that they are going to reshuffle the deck chairs on the Titanic,  find enough deep pockets to buy these Congressional seats, impeach the next President as soon as possible, and install a different one in there and keep doing the same crap, which is GIVING THEMSELVES BIG TAX BREAKS AND STARTING MORE FOREIGN OCCUPATIONS TO LITERALLY  PETROFUEL THEIR AMBITIONS.

The sad part was that I needed to go to the bank and the store after I got my photo notes,  and there was a homeless person begging with a sign on a corner with a sign near a grocery.  There have been  more people doing this in Auburn, and it really, really upsets the wing nuts, who call them lazy beggers who just won't work.   My first thought was to ask if he wanted to comment on this, and then I thought, no, don't do that because if they see this they will come by and haul his butt right down to Sacramento and tell him never to come back.

These Republicans just don't get the economic situation in this country right now.

  •  Doug Ose (3+ / 0-)

Ose sure looks like a member in good standing of the Corrupt Cronies Club. What, do the Republicans have a stamp press in a shed out back, that just keeps pumping these guys out?

As I mentioned before I'm in CA:03. I suffer the ignorance of so many individuals in my area. It's rural Calaveras county, but the ignorance. Oller was almost out when I moved here, so I am less familiar with him than Lundgren. It's a tough district for Dems, but Bill Durston is gonna give it another run, and I'll be supporting him. Lundgren is vile. The crap he says at townhall meetings you wouldn't believe, or you would.

Anyway, thanx for keeping this updated.

... The other guy from the south, the Thomas "Rico" Oller person uses both names interchangeably on the documents I've seen, plus both sometimes, just to make our lives spent in search engines more interesting.  From previous elections he's also been stuck with the knickname "Oilly Oller."

Doug Ose's real middle name is .... get this... Arlo. So his initials would be DAO.  So they expect the distric to go Doo- Dao or Doo- Too.

This is seriously feng shui of the Repubs.

State ASSY 02 is to the northwest of Fed CA- 04 and includes Mt Shasta, Red Bluff, Reddng, and Yuba City.   You could not pry that flagpole away from LaMalfa during this whole ceremony, he was hugging it for all he was worth.

Since LaMalfa is a rice farmer he's into building more water resevoirs and trying to pass bills that would not only issue bonds for them but exempt new ones from CEQA enviromental regulations.
