A few diaries are headlining a Richardson endorsement of Clinton. This is based on an apparently mistaken NPR report, and has been debunked by Politico.

I'll delete this diary as soon as the misleading diaries disappear off the side of the page.

Politico debunking below the cut.

Bill Richardson and Bill Clinton spoke to reporters during halftime in New Mexico...but no endorsement, and the Clinton campaign says not to expect one.

A senior Democratic source said Bill Richardson was expected to endorse Hillary Clinton tonight, but this seems to have been just high-level chatter.

The New Mexico governor is watching with the Super Bowl with the former president.

        Plausible deniability.

        It is Richardson's style to drag his feet on things, then jump on the bandwagon late and claim credit.  He was exactly the same way about the voting reform bill that required a paper trail, and improved things in this state.

        There's any number of other local stuff he's been exactly the same way on.  Getting Molycorp declared a Superfund site.  Returning the "bottleneck" tract up above Blue Lake to Taos Pueblo.  All sorts of stuff.

        This is just Richardson being Richardson.  Exactly what I would expect from him.

        remember what AdamB posted.  Most of her donors have been of the $2300 variety.  That means that they are done for the primary.  No more money from them.  

        However, low money and a mediocre Tuesday could turn the tide into a tidal wave.

          $2300 for the primary, that much again for the general.  A lot of the fundraising events have required that to get in the door.  That second chunk of money cannot be spent in the primaries.  So a fair chunk of her CoH isn't available now.

          Hillary is trying to (and reasonably likely to succeed in) putting the whole thing away on Tuesday.  If she doesn't, then money will be the least of her problems.  If she does, then more $4600 donors will be made to materialize.  The situation is very similar to NH that way.

        In a sense, if she is not broke, then she is making a mistake.  As the one with a shot to put the thing away, having anything left over is a sign of not being able to spend it effectively.  (Things are different for Obama, who is playing to get a split and keep it going.)

        If search worked better, I would dig up my pre-NH posts where I said the same thing.

  Anyway you look at it, Richardsons decision not to announce an endorsemnet is an endorsement of Hillary considering his past close ties with the Clintons AND his coming to Hillary's defense in one of the debates where he spoke up in favor of the merits of experience.

  The only way Richardson's endorsement would have been BIG news is if he broke with with Clintons and endorsed Obama -- which he is NOT doing.
