Why we must win (w/ poll)

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 07:49:07 PM PDT

This is the exact reason that I have to admit I will vote for Clinton if we are stuck with her as our Democratic candidate.
McCain praises Roberts and Alito
Even though it will pain me beyond words to vote for another Clinton, I will do it to prevent anymore like these two from getting appointed.

These two think that the Bill of Rights was a big mistake. Given the opportunity to re-write the Constitution they would curtail individual rights as much as Congress would allow them.
I think that most people really miss the importance of the President's judicial appointments. They make law for many years after the President that appointed them is gone. They effect legal precedent in this country for generations and if we allow one more of these Republican operatives on the court, you will see an unpredented attack on your constitutional rights.
I saw this from Hillary, so I will give her the benefit of the doubt. She is critical of the Roberts and Alito Court.
I'm still voting for Obama in the primary, unless Edwards reconsiders.

Update: from the Wall Street Journal
This Court is not interested in restoring Consitutional government
Quite to the contrary. This article is a great example of how twisted the WSJ has become. There has never been an administration in the history of this country that has assaulted the Constitution the way Bush has, and Robert's clearly sees it as his mission to protect this behavior.

  •  I agree. McCain is a pandering hack... (1+ / 0-)

The media loves him, and he loves himself. It's all he has going for him. Yes, he doesn't support torture, but doesn't that make you realize how low our standards are for a republican now? It's like choosing a husband because he doesn't beat you. Isn't that the POINT?

I would vote for Hillary in the general if only because I believe deep within her triangulation and opportunism, there's a liberal who will put freedom-minded folks on the Supreme Court.

I mean, how bad could Senator John McPalpatine possibly be?

  •  I imagine weare 99.9999% in agreement on this (0+ / 0-)

No matter who wins the nomination, the supreme court alone is enough reason to keep me on the farm.

'I speak, therefore I act' is the great American illusion of politics.

  •  Yes but... (0+ / 0-)

we should also ask ourselves who can appoint the most effective progressive judges.

It'd be acceptable to have a nice person like Ruth Ginsburg who votes reliably the right way.

But what we really need is an intellectual firebrand - a left-wing Scalia.

Who's more likely to give us that?

I know who Obama's veep will be. You can too!
