The Daily Kos Super Tuesday Exit Poll

Tue Feb 05, 2008 at 11:15:25 AM PDT

I have seen a number of people post diaries about who they voted for, where they voted, and the impressions they got from candidate presence or conversations at their polling place, so I thought it would be good to have one place to share all of those stories. I can't vote until next week, so I don't have a story to share.

If you have a story about voting problems (machine registering wrong candidate, being wrongly turned away at the polls, etc.), please don't post it here - start your own thread. Those stories are important and need to be circulated as widely as possible.

Late deciders especially: feel free to tell what made you decide.

Obama signs in front of the polling place. No signs for any other candidates, D or R. And this is a strong republican area. I used to be for Edwards, but voted for Obama.

  •  voted in Oakland (1+ / 0-)

not busy, but it was like 10:30, and they said it was pretty busy before.  Go Obama!

Gobama! Edwards, I believed in you, and your inaction has disappointed me.

I thought I would share my voting experience with SOMEONE as I did not leave the polling place with a great feeling.

Its the same place I have been voting since 1996. I should note that this is the first primary election I participated in.  They asked my name (did not check any ID.. I can probably go back and vote again as my little brother later tonight as I saw he is still registered at this location).

I was then asked if I am a Democrat or Republican.  I said "I'm an independent" which is true, though I have voted Dem every election.

There were four boxes, Dem, Repub, Other, and something else.  The lady then says to me "If you are independent you cannot vote."  I really didn't feel like making a big scene, so I just said "Democrat" and proceeded to get my paper ballot to vote.

We were given the option for paper or electronic.  I don't trust the electronic machines and therefore went the paper route.  It was the black-pen "fill-in-the-line" type ballot.  There were two sheets for a plethora of judges and assessors etc.  I was there to support a presidential nominee and even the uncontested Dick Durbin.

The lady who said I couldn't vote because I'm was an independent was also nice enough to point out "boy that was fast!"  I said "yes, thankyou."  They scanned the blank ballot and told me I under-voted. I said "I know, my votes are only on the other ballot."  They scanned my presidential nominee ballot and said that votes were recorded.

Then my favorite part is when I asked for a receipt and they pointed at my little "I Voted!" sticker.

Really when will a candidate, ANY candidate, push legislation that unifies the voting process in our elections to make sure the will of the people is upheld?

  •  Ack (0+ / 0-)

I voted absentee for a candidate who then withdrew from the race. I feel my vote was wasted. A good reason to wait until election day from now on.
