Hillary says today: What's All This Clinton-Obama Ticket Talk?

Jake Tapper of ABC News saw Senator Hillary Clinton today in Scranton Pennsylvania and he asked her about the talk of a Clinton-Obama ticket that her campaign has been speaking about these past few weeks and more forcefully over the weekend.

I hope that people see right through her response.  Jake Tapper called it "bizarre".

As we all know, it has been both Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton that have been floating this notion of a "Dream ticket" which is Hillary as the president and Obama as the Vice President.  Today Obama FORCEFULLY shot that down in a way that only he can do with humor, irony, and gumption.

Well today Jack Tapper of ABC News asked Hillary about this possible Clinton-Obama ticket.

Here is how the conversation happened.  Jake Tapper called it "quite strange" and "bizarre".

TAPPER: "Senator, how do you reconcile your suggestion that maybe Senator Obama would be appropriate to be on a Clinton-Obama ticket while at the same time you are suggesting that he isn't prepared to be commander-in-chief?"

CLINTON: "Well this thing has really been given a life of its own. You know, a lot of Democrats like us both and have been very hopeful that they wouldn't have to make a choice, but obviously Democrats have to make a choice and I'm looking forward to getting the nomination. And it's premature to talk about whoever might be on whose ticket, but I believe that I am ready to serve on day one."

Yep Jake Tapper it is bizarre.

    •  I think his timing is impressive

      He's shown he can respond swiftly, as with the 3am phone ad.  I think with the VP and experience stuff he may have been letting it stew just enough for his response to carry more weight.  Take Clinton's above "ignorance" of the VP talk ... if Obama smacked it down right away (last week sometime,) not much would have been accomplished since not much had been said.  With his rebuttal today he's effectively addressing both the VP issue and, more importantly, the experience issue which is perhaps his largest perceived liability.

  I really have no other explanation - they constantly lie about things, even when very trivial questions are asked.  I once had a friend like this-lied about everything, even when it was utterly pointless to lie and it could be disproved immediately.  One time, he told me he just got a parakeet.  I went to his house that day - no parakeet.  WTF?

    I employed someone who turned out be a pathologial liar. The damage to my business and my daughter was devastating. The worst was when people were angry with ME for firing her after she very pubicly humiliated someone with a blatant lie.

    So, it doesn't surprise me to see people continuing to fawn over the Clintons. Somehow people like to be "charmed". They surely don't seem to be able to stand up to this behavior.

      I know I am biased, but I feel that if everyone followed all these things carefully, Obama would get 80% of the votes.  The problem is that very few people catch these things and the media isn't doing its job to inform people of these lies, missteps, whatever you want to call them.  I think a very large proportion of the public would be very turned off to this sort of manipulation.

  Maybe we don't have to look that far.  David Geffen distanced himself from the Clintons after being a devotee for some years.  His comment was how easily they lied.  He found it troubling.

  Hillary and Bill could both be sociopaths.  There doesn't seem to be any kind of bridge to reality for them at this point.  I realize there is an element of "lying" in being a politician, but to lie and then turn it around and lie again and again, even when it's on tape is more than a little troubling.

  The other two options are she is really senile and doesn't remember from day to day what she says or she simply is that good at being a bald-faced lier.

    Admittedly, the issue was prompted and not one she raised herself. But she certainly didn't deny. I believe she also said the same thing at a Mississippi rally but I can't find a decent source.

    And as an aside, when she was questioned about the damage of a protracted primary, she says, "Well we did well in '92."

    Not the dems did well, not the party did well, not Bill did well. We.

    Maybe she did mean the party did well, to the best of her knowledge. Dunno.
