Don't fall into the Ferraro trap

Tue Mar 11, 2008 at 06:58:57 PM PDT

Come on people, don't let the Ferraro thingie cause you to fall into a trap.
The trap is to frame this campaign along racial lines.  The press is already talking about African Americans voted this way and whites voted that way.  It is bull doodoo. It is a past that we must rise against and unite as an American people.

Move on...there is nothing to see here.  What she said was just stupid based on the reality of Senator Obama's background and the work he and his campaign are doing.  It is a major distraction that could make us wallow in a cesspool.  I can't believe that we are taking her seriously.  There are people who think like her.  It's a fact and I do not think anything will change their minds.

Folks want a change, it doesn't come on a silver platter, we have to work for it and part of that work is to not get distracted by pettiness and bigotry.  It will trip us up.  The road to Washington was never promised to be smooth.  There are a lot of potholes on the way.

I grew up in Pennsylvania and went to University in New York State.  I am not surprised at what Ferraro said because as she sits there and says she has had 40 years of civil rights activism, she can still say the thing about  Senator Obama.  That is some two faced kaka.  But it is a reality for some people.  Don't be discouraged.

So take the high road and keep on truckin (ok, I'm showing my age :) )

Peace :)

  •  It's a good point, and they trotted this out (5+ / 0-)

just when there were serious questions about Hillary's foreign policy experience (dubious experience at best) were being raised.

This is a distraction.  However, if we had party leadership with any spine, they would cut this shit out already.  Hillary doesn't have a prayer of winning the nomination on the up and up.  She should therefore get out.  That's what part leaders are for.  But Nancy and that nutless wonder Harry Reid won't do anything.  And no, Pelosi's statement today is not enough.

    Well said.

  •  YES (1+ / 0-)

I think it needs to be slapped down but it can't be too much, by keeping it going we only give the Clintons what they want. I already see this working and the more they slime him the more they can claim he is damaged and those awful racist Americans just won't vote him. Hopefully, the Superdelegates are looking at yet another HUGE win by Obama and seeing a good time to jump in and END THIS for the good of the party and the country.

  •  I am new here. (0+ / 0-)

You are right.  Don't let the Clintons win by dividing the party.

We will have to rally around Obama when he gets the nomination.  Obama/Webb in November 2008.

  •  move on (0+ / 0-)

is absolutely right. Call it stupid and uninformed and say you leave it to the Clinton campaign to deal with her surrogate. Then forget it. As the diarist says - they realize they can frame it as a race issue.

I do love that cat humor.

  •  I'm done (0+ / 0-)

I'd held out the belief that if Super Delegates became idiots and went for her that I'd hold my nose and vote for her.  But, this is just too much for me.

I'm an Obama voter who will never cast a vote for Mrs. Clinton.  One too many racist comments from one of her surrogates for me.  And personally, I'm not even ready to move on until she's asked Ferraro to step down.

but I only remember GF as Mondale's running mate back in the times of the women's right's movements.  Who'd a thunk she'd be trying to steal Ann Coulter's spotlight?

  •  ok, ok, ok (0+ / 0-)

Im still not ok, but I'm going to try to swallow some of my disgust

my guy Obama doesn't want us to focus on this, ok, ok, you're right I can do this!

  •  No (0+ / 0-)

Obama needs to acknowledge the racism and say that Americans are above that. He should not allow it. He should challenge us to rise above it.

He has a choice of allowing the Clintons to steward the race discussion or taking it on himself. It will be discussed.

  •  Battles should be picked (0+ / 0-)

This battle just fuels divisions and I personally think plays into some strange goal that first poked its head in SC.

Play the race card.  National Security isn't doing it, so why not race?

GF has voiced her thoughts before and I am sure folks in the Clinton circle must have heard it from her.  She does not seem like a woman who would keep her opinions to herself.
