Random Thoughts

Some random thoughts today

I'm really sick of the "if Obama wins, the terrorists will be dancing in the streets" meme.  It pops up from time to time, and I think I've figured out how Obama should best respond to it:  "If the terrorists want to dance in the streets because of my victory, that's great.  It will easier for me to find them and bring them to justice."

...

I really wish the Fallon story would have gotten more coverage.  As for national implications, that has a lot more relevance than Spitzer's thing, or even the results of the MS primary.  A firewall being removed between a maniacal president and war with Iran is more important that Obama picking up a net 5 delegates when he's already won the nomination (this should be obvious).

...

I'm really worried about the economic situation.  I'm not going to pretend that I know as much about it as many of the bloggers here.  I'm just a guy who makes pretty good money as a computer programmer.  I just want to be able to lend my excess money to responsible businesses who look after their workers, and be repaid with just enough interest to beat inflation.  I wish I didn't have to worry about making investments that yeild 10%+ annual returns to finance my retirement.  I wish I didn't have to bother with investing to afford a house or kids.  I don't see why we as a society can't just make our money through working, rather than through speculation.  Like I say, I'm no economist, but to me, in the overall picture that I have in my mind, it seems like as a society we should be able to pay our workers more instead of companies (ie. the rich folk who own them) making much profit.  The rich won't be able to afford the 10k sqft houses, or the quartly 2-week cruises or whatever they do to spend their money, but the average joe working a factory will be able to afford a decent house the the ability to raise his kids giving them a college education.  I just don't understand why we can't make this happen.

about the fact that 3 out of 4 people I know are Democrats or vote Democratic and McCain is winning overwhelmingly. I am the only one voting for Obama. Yes, this country is stupid enough to let a Republican become President because they don't like the Democratic nominee.

...thought....Elliot Spitzer has slammed the Democrat Party in the left eye and created a huge shiner....thanks Elliot....thanks a lot.

There is that, but at least our guy had the decency to resign.

      Vitter.

Craig (after a few months or whatever).

At least our guy knows he did something wrong instead of knows he was caught.

And Spitzer should be forgotten by November.  We're sure to have another Republican scandal by then (aside from the ongoing scandal that is GWB).
