Hillary Sides with Coal Fat Cats. What Will Barack Do? (with poll)

Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 02:27:10 PM PDT

The primary race in West Virginia is heating up and the future of one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world is at stake.

As diaried by Faithfull here, Hillary Clinton went on West Virginia Public Radio this morning and refused to condemn the practice of mountaintop removal mining in West Virginia.  To make matter worse, Hillary appeared to support building at least 10 new coal fired power plants, casting her lot with the promoters of so-called "clean coal."

Tomorrow, Barack Obama will campaign in West Virginia, and I hope that he will continue to support the majority of West Virginians who oppose turning the Appalachian Mountains into a lifeless pile of rubble.

Every poll taken has shown that West Virginians overwhelmingly oppose mountaintop removal.  What is wrong with Hillary Clinton?  Why would she align herself with the fat cats who are destroying our mountains and communities for short term profit?

Citizens of Appalachia will be watching Obama carefully tomorrow when he comes to West Virginia to see how he responds to Hillary's refusal to stand up for the environment.  If you want to help stop the destruction of the Appalachian Mountains, email Obama and his campaign and urge him to continue his stand against mountaintop removal.  (It also wouldn't hurt to talk the Clinton folks, if you don't think that they are a lost cause already).
