Have Obama or Clinton Responded to Winter Soldier: Iran and Afghanistan?

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 12:29:37 PM PDT

There have been several diaries here referring to the Winter Soldier: Iraq and Iran proceedings of last week-end.

For example,

A DKos search will show more.

But if there has been any discussion about the Obama and Clinton campaigns referring to it I have missed them.

My concern is that basically Obama and Clinton are trying to talk about how to bring most of the troops home without really dealing with the issues that are raised by Iraq and Afghanistan. Though Obama flirts with it, neither candidate is actually discussing the fact that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are already lost and they are lost because of the conduct of the military from the Commander in Chief all the way down to the grunt in the field killing civilians simply because his sargent said "open fire."

continued....

When will the Obama and Clinton campaigns ever state the truth?

  1. The war was illegal from the inception.  Why hasn't Obama said this clearly? Why hasn't Obama said not only that Clinton was wrong to support the war, but that she was supporting an illegal policy of premptive strike that violates the Nuremberg principles and the Geneva Accords?
  1. Why isn't either candidate directly facing the atrocities that the soldiers of Winter Soldier have been providing the testimony for?  Innocent civilians have been killed and their deaths covered up by falsely planting guns or shovels on them.  Iraqi police and bodyguards are killed for no reason other than the US troops didn't have anyone to speak to them in Arabic and ask what they were doing in what was taken to be the wrong place at the wrong time.
  1. Both wars are lost. Neither Clinton nor Obama can turn the present loss into a "victory" as their current war positioning attempts to do.

A recent edition of OpEdNews provided a recent article WINTER SOLDIER BLACKOUT CONTINUES: Look in the Mirror America!!!!! that discusses the failure of the MSM to cover the Winter Soldier event.

Pacifica's KPFA radio of Berkely provided the extraordinary coverage of the event and perhaps it is the MSM bias against anything reported by the left side of the Media that kept them away.

The Real News Network has been providing some coverage but it is another part of the left side of the media.

I think it is time for Obama nad Cliton to face the reality of the phoney war on Iraq and Afghanistan and understand the true implications of the Winter Soldier testimony about the daily ocnduct of the troops turning the people of Iraq and Afghanistan against the US.

  •  I've listened to Winter Soldier during the week (0+ / 0-)

through "Democracy Now!".  It is very powerful testimony. Actually hearing the Lucys tell the story of their son's suicide (as opposed to reading about it a while ago) brought me to tears.

However, I don't think we can expect any candidate to talk about the event.  I hope that a Democratic President would do so, but I don't think any Democrat will acknowledge it prior to Inauguration.  I'm sure they feel it could cause too much controversy amongst the mostly uninformed public.

I really hope that the testimony will make it to Congress as it did the first time.
