Is anybody paying attention to the Bush/Cheney quiet march to war??

Fri Mar 21, 2008 at 11:48:36 AM PDT

While the cable news shows are focused on watching the Clintons hold the democratic party hostage, the real blow up they should be reporting on is the Bush/Cheney march to war with Iran.  Not only is this administration going to leave us with a country on the verge of a depression and with debt that can't possibly be paid off in our life time, they are going to hand our next president  WW3 as House warming gift!

The administration may not be as brazen as they were in the run up to war with Iraq, It now all seems so preposterous that the press, the Democrats, they let Karl Rove get away with referring to the war with Iraq as a "product" that should not be rolled out until September"  Now five years, an innocent country left in ruins, the dead in Iraq now over 300,000 our soldiers dead, maimed or emotionally scared for life, marriages lost, careers, childhoods missed, it sends chills down my spine... for what?  ...and they are doing it again.

How can the newsies ignore facts Aamer Madhani wrote on March 1, in the Baltimore Sun about the Firing of Admiral William Fallon,  "the top U.S. commander in the Middle East, publicly criticized the Bush Administration’s Iran policy and immediately resigned his command." (yeah right,"resigned")

Esquire states "Fallon is portrayed as the one man standing in the way of Bush going to war with Iran.  Admiral Fallon was described as a lone wolf calling on the administration to tamp down the drumbeat of war and engage Iran.  Gates downplayed the importance of the Esquire article that called Fallon the "rarest of creatures in the Bush universe: the good cop on Iran."

WHY ISN'T THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF EVERY MAJOR NEWSPAPER IN THE USA?  It's like deja vu, it's happening all over again.

Shortly after the "retirement letter" was accepted, Bush sent his new BFF (Best Friend Forever) John McCain on a trip, it  started in Europe but ends in the middle east, where McCain seems to have morphed into George W. Bush 2.... however, McCain brought a translator with him... Joementum Lieberman.  So now we have Darth Vader Cheney letting the three stooges do his bidding.

Before kids are buying pencils at Target for school this fall, when everyone's changed their white wardrobe for wool, Bush is going to give us a war...  What can we do?  This IS happening.  It feels so much like Iraq, I'll bet the nut bags in the White House actually know the date the bombs will fall, they don't have time to pretend they care about what the UN thinks, what our old allies think, what the American People think, no, these good church going, praying, Jesus loving, flag lapel wearing creeps don't care what anyone thinks.  HELP!

and especially in the military have to be looking ahead.  They know they will have a new boss in January and that boss will probably be Obama.  Fallon was overtly trying to stop any Iran action, but there are many others that will probably try to stall it covertly. I'm hoping anyway.

  •  Suppose they gave a war and... (7+ / 0-)

nobody could pay for it? Where's the resources of money and troops ? The recent collapse and rescue of the financial sector would be small change to a further plummeting of the dollar and spiking oil towards $200.00 /bbl or higher.

  •  I'm paying attention (8+ / 0-)

But I'm hopeful that King Abdullah will put a stop to Bush/Cheney on war with Iran.  He has been a very positive influence in the past couple years, perhaps mostly because he is realigning Saudi toward closer ties to India and China (both of whom have big investments in Iran).  If Abdullah and Premier Hu - the main financial backers of American excess - say in one voice that there will be no war, there will be no war.

It's prett sad that I have to look to the Chinese and the Saudis to keep peace in the world.

Everybody's involved with the primary and race.  Ignoring what the Bush/Cheney clan is doing will be our DOOM DAY I'm afraid.

I also noted yesterday that wasn't talked about, how Cheney went to Iraq to PUSH them into having their election BEFORE our November election (in October to be exact).

Guess who THAT will help come October?  John McCain.  He'll be able to say those extra troops are still over there BECAUSE of this election, and he'll be able to say that LOOK -- THEY ARE HAVING ANOTHER ELECTION -- another sure sign of success!

They are patheic and voters swallow it all.

Once we're in there, Congress (both parties) will refuse to NOT FUND that war.

for a long time.  Although, no, the media are not paying attention at all.

I can't tell if this is going to happen or not--it is clear Bush would like to attack Iran and Cheney wants nothing more, but the environment is not as favorable as it was for their attack on Iraq, and the clock is ticking on their last year in office.

However--and this is where all the election frenzy is still important--if we get McCain as President, it won't matter even if we make it through the current administration without WW III--you can be assured that McCain will bring it on himself.

THEY will be the ones that take us in - I'm sure of it.  I'm expecting to hear any day now about our bombing or Israel bombing their nuke areas.  Then Iran retailating.

McCain will then win because people will be VERY AFRAID (like with Bush/Cheney).

First we'll hear about an Iranian "attack" on us, then the bombing starts.

to put food on the table to even think about this.. they'll vote for another hawk... Unless Obama or_________ (encert your favorite candidate here) Unless they can get the American people to blame the economy on the war.

People are easily frightened by the neocons, McCain will be able to whip them up... but if people can see the direct connection to the money they're paying for gas, food, and soon just about everything, they would insist we get out now.

People in the middle, good friends of mine.. well educated, talented amazing people, are struggling to keep their bills paid.  My good friend who is a classical musician does nothing but work... she teaches every second she can, to pay the bills, she picks up every gig she can get, plays with some great orchestras but still is falling behind.  Her big bills, medical insurance and gas to gigs.  This is a woman who has done nothing but work her entire adult life, she plays gorgeous music and she doesn't have a cent for retirement and she's 58 years old.  This is a person who went to the best schools, who has tremendous talent but when money gets tight, the first thing to go is music, art, extra entertainment.  So many people are going to be in bad shape if this downturn continues (and my economist husband worries we're not even close to the worse of it....)  Anyway, my point being, let people know the war is ruining the dollar, the war is making prices go up, the war is costing us $50 to fill our tanks.  People have let go of the war as an issue because of their short attention spans... no dead people on the news, well then everything is fine.

Link money to this war, in terms that people can understand (how many kids could go to college for free with one week of money we pour into Iraq.  The American people have good hearts but if you want to hit them where they live, connect the war to their wallet and they'll be marching by the millions.

  •  Everyone should read Juan Cole's Thursday blog. (4+ / 0-)

Guest editorial by William Polk, who lays it all out.

Cole also calls Bush on more lies about Iran today.
