Attention Superdelegates: IT'S OVER

Consider this an open letter to all remaining undecided superdelegates...

To the Superdelegates on the sidelines: It's over.

It's time to get off the bench and end this farcical "race" once and for all. Obama has near insurmountable leads in the pledged delegate and popular vote contests. Put Bill Richardson's endorsement together with the revelation that even Clinton insiders give Hillary a less than 1 in 10 chance to win the nomination and we have a clear message: It's over.

Obama has proven that he can take a punch and not only punch back but raise his game another level. He took the Wright "scandal" and turned in one of the defining moments in modern American political history: It's over.

The media is on the train. Hell, even Mark Halperin, professional asshole over at Time magazine has gotten the memo: It's over.

The longer we allow this "race" to continue, the more opportunity Hillary has to continue her destructive kitchen sink strategy. This is damaging not just to Obama, but to you! He will be the nominee and the sooner that becomes codified through your endorsements, the sooner we can ALL turn our focus to November. Allow Hillary and her campaign to flail away at your own peril: It's over.

So please superdelegates. Al Gore. John Edwards. Nancy Pelosi. Countless other Congress-critters and DNC members. You and you alone have the power to keep our party from self-imploding over the summer. You have the power to turn our firepower away from each other and back where it belongs, on John McCain and his cronies.

Superdelegates, End this thing: It's over.

  As I see it, Hillary has to win Pennsylvania and North Carolina--and by blowout margins--to overtake Obama.

  She won't get that margin in Pennsylvania--if I remember correctly, Obama shaves off several points of any deficit he starts out with in every state where he campaigns.  Add in the substantial black vote in Philly and Pittsburgh.  

  Can't see her winning NC either.  

  Get a backbone, supers.  It would take nothing less than a complete Obama collapse for him not to get the nomination.

    I think it's the fear factor. The super-delegates are more afraid of the Clintons if they pick Obama than they're afraid of Obama if they pick the Clintons. If they pick the Clintons, and Obama wins, Obama will be gracious and let them join the fold with no hard feelings. If they pick Obama, and the Clintons win, they think the Clintons will shut them out and punish them.

          •  Yes and no. If they say nothing and

            McSame wins somehow, then it's not really directly their fault, and perhaps they can dodge the Clinton shredfest of All Who Stood Against Her as she ramps up for 2012, salting the fields and stomping on the ashes (present as a result of all that scorched earth) of Those Who Killed (Her) Party That Woulda Won, You Betcha. But if they endorse Obama and he loses, they'll be filleted by the Clintons, period- there's no plausible deniability there.

            So it is my belief that the timid absolutely would rather see McCain win through their inaction, than by taking an action that would be a net negative in their careers in the worst case of a general election loss (or theft). It's a simple cost/benefit analysis: they are more likely to keep their own personal power through inaction, while minimizing their risks. It's a no-brainer, for the timid.

            I think it sucks rocks through a straw, but that's why I'm not a politician- and they are...

              No matter what happens with Obama in the GE, Hillary has shown during this campaign that her time is past.  She would go into 2012 as just one of several frontrunners, not THE frontrunner like she was this year.

  It's almost certain that neither candidate will win the nomination based on deligates won in either primaries or caucuses.

  So, the nomination is decided by the super deligates who can change their minds any time and as often as they want.  The system is that if it is close, they get to decide.  And they do.
