Update [2005-4-5 13:19:46 by Armando]: Title changed to make sure no one thought I believe the O'Jays were antisemitic.
First, no they are not as far as I know.
But to hear the Right Wing Boswell of Daily Kos, the Weekly Standard's and soxblog's (if ever you needed an excuse to become a Yankee fan) James Frederick Dwight would no doubt chide the O'Jays for their song titled "Backstabbers":
ALAS, EVEN THE LEFT WING blogosphere has not been above using language that has been vaguely redolent of anti-Semitism. A recent piece on the Daily Kos accused Jewish Senator Joe Lieberman of "stabbing his party in the back." Perhaps Kossack Armando, also the author of that diatribe, was unfamiliar with the history and rhetoric of Weimar Germany but he was keeping linguistic company with some rather disreputable figures in referring to a Jewish politician as a back-stabber.
Well golly gee, you mean that the phrase "stabbing in the back" is antisemitic now? Talk about your PC. And this from a guy who LOVES Lawrence Summers. But I do see the difference - Summers ACTUALLY falsely said that women as a group are less apt in the sciences and mathematics than men, while I said Lieberman, one individual U.S. Senator, was stabbing Dems in the back, which he is of course. Yes, it is clear who is stereotyping here about a whole group. Oh by the way, if "backstabber" is such a dirty word, what does the soxblog have to say about this:
But Sen. Kerry obviously believes the times are changing. He believes that there may be millions of Americans who will be impressed by the fact that hand kissing, back-stabbing, atheistic, sophisticated Euro-leaders prefer John Kerry to George Bush.
Was Blankely calling Euros Jews? One last possible explanation on the flip.
Maybe it was because Joe is Jewish. Maybe "backstabber" is the equivalent of using the hateful word "kike"? Always inappropriate when referring to a Jewish person. But, maybe
not:
I imagine that expert backstabber Shimon Peres is planning a coup as I write this.
And another:
Back-stabbers?
What a sad group is Jews for Divestment from Israel (April 13 Bulletin).
Its 15 members claim they want to show love and respect for our Arab "cousins." How can they show love for others while back-stabbing their own people?
Members of this group have every right to disagree with the politics of Israel, but this does not entitle them to tell the world what rotten people we are.
MIRIAM GOODLEY
Hmmm. Pro-Israel self-hating Jews? Only the soxblog knows.
