I want my Obama mp3

Sat Mar 22, 2008 at 03:31:48 PM PDT

So my HRC leaning father finally fell.  On Sunday we met for brunch and he was a HRC fan. On Friday night he's on Team Obama.  The "More perfect Union" speech, left him with no option but to switch sides.  Seems his fascination for HRC, was her ability to needle Repugs. (Give credit where credit is due, she does have that ability)

He teaches Speech writing and English at a local community college and has always been progressive and non-tolerant of intolerance.  He lost friends when he invited Black coworkers to his wedding reception in 1965. He  maintains, that as an Irish immigrant to the USA, his success was greatly ensured by his ability to speak english and the fact he was white.  I suspect that his students, predominately immigrants are going to be dissecting that speech line by line.

So he tasked me with creating a CD of Obama's "More perfect union" speech, which after a lot of searching and updating to Quicktime Pro, I was able to do.  But I wanted to include the speeches, "Ebenezer Church", and his Announcement Speech. I can't find one downloadable audio version of those speeches.

Does anyone have a mp3 version of those speeches and can someone tell the Obama campaign put a downloadable audio version of these speeches onto the website, or to Itunes maybe, make it easy for the masses.

It seems it would be a great way to get Obama's msg's out to a broader audience.  You'd be able to listen to the way that his speeches have evolved, you could listen when you wanted, you could make the Repug's at work listen. But mainly you'd help me make sure that my dad becomes smarter about the new team he's on.

And if anyone says, "Just go to the Obama Website", I'm going to ask for very specific directions because in the 2 days of searching I haven't seen it posted anywhere.

The audio link for the "More perfect Union" speech is here

I know Yes, We Can is available free from the Obama campaign's podcast but that would be the first place I'd check for A More Perfect Union on mp3.

download http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ audacity (don't worry I've been using it for years, it's clean and good. You'll also need a program called LAME http://lame.sourceforge.net/... to turn it into an mp3. You install these audacity and then just play his speech on your computer and record the audio with audacity then hit "export as mp3". I did it for the Will.I.Am song "yes we can".

If you can find the YouTube videos of the speeches, you can go to that and convert them to audio only (mp3) files, and upload them somewhere.

I am also working on the same project bldr, but I am doing it with the video. I got an excellent version (screem resolution), of the "More perfect Union" speech. Which I decided to give to my friends and clients, so they can play it on their TV's at their leisure, and also spread the word.

I am still fine tuning the video presentation, and is coming along really nice. Afterward I am planning to do a video compilation, of his most important speeches for the same purpose as you.

I will get back to you shortly about getting the mp3 version of those two speeches to you.

  •  If you can find the video you have the audio (0+ / 0-)

    Windows instructions.

    1. Open your favorite audio recording program.
    1. Open your sound card volume control panel by double clicking the little speaker icon in your system tray.
    1. Click Options. Then Properties. And then the little radio button that says Recording.
    1. Then select the check box that implies a loopback through your soundcard. Most often its called 'Stereo Mix' select that check box. And click ok.
    1. You will return to the volume control panel but this time the volumes will be for recording not playback. Leave this panel open so you can adjust the volume appropriately
    1. Click record on your favorite audio and then press play on the video of your choosing. The audio from the video playback will be recorded by your audio program.

    Notes:

    1. Be sure you turn down any microphones plugged into your computer or you might also record whats happening inside your office.
    1. Make sure you don't have anything else playing at the same time (no music, games, etc) or you will pick that up in the recording as well.
    1. I like to play with the volume while it records the first time to get it tuned in and then restart the recording once I know the volume is where I want it. Too loud will be distorted and too soft will require the listener to crank their stereo up.
    1. The audio in YouTube videos isn't perfect CD quality. Far from it actually most audio is compressed to 64kbs. But I don't think you will find a high quality version online. But maybe the Obama campaign will send you one?
    1. There are other more technical ways of extracting audio from a video file. But they often require you to download special pieces of software and convert the video format from flash to something more standard like MPEG or AVI. The way I have described is much faster and much simpler.

"So my HRC leaning father finally fell."

OMG! is he OK? TYPICAL Hillary Clinton behavior.  I am so glad I never tried leaning on her.  Anyway, I hope your dad's fall wasn't too bad.

"you could listen when you wanted, you could make the Repug's at work listen."

What amazes me is that this is the first speech in this country about race.  THE FIRST ONE, imagine!

The concept that we have to work together or we will surely fall alone, really hasn't ever been articulated.

Hard to believe that until last week nobody had a dream to give a speech addressing the topic of racial equality.

    I mean, who?

Someone once said that if a politician gives a speech and everyone thinks its great, it must not be very good because it didn't offend anyone.

I would like to make that person listen to a CD of Obama's speech.

choked on my pancakes, when he told me he was leaning to HRC. Strangely the entire breakfast didn't taste as well after the news.
