      It is the Reese's egg.

      But there is a bit uproar at Hershey Foods about a lot of jobs moving to Mexico. Now how the hell can people tour the Hershey Chocolate Plant located in the heart of Hershey in Mexico. Reese's boys not too happy, folks.

      You have to love Hershey PA, everything there is chocolate themed, the street lights are shaped like Hershey Kisses. There is Chocolate Avenue.
      And if you stay at the Hershey Convetion Center, you can conduct a conference in one of several Cocoa Suites.

      Brach's peanut butter eggs; no longer available (or at least I haven't found any in ten years or more).  The centers were very smooth, moist and creamy; not at all crumbly like Reese's.

              They look sort of good, but might be too modern for American tastes. Daughter and I were talking about Creme Eggs: they are really good (I can remember the first year that I discovered them, not that I remember which year it was, although Wiki would probably tell me), but somewhat like Candy Corn, one overdose and that's it for a while.

              I voted creme eggs, but have always been partial to the malted-milk inside of hard shell stuff, especially the speckled eggs. Sore tongue for days!

      But unfortunately, year after year (around Easter time, in fact), people continue to do so. How do they do it? It's rather simple:

      Fill up a vat of dye.

      Acquire a bunch of live chicks.

      Dump the chicks in for a variable amount of time.

      The chicks that don't drown, are placed in a cardboard box to dry off.

      The chicks that don't die as a result of the dye are placed in another box.

      Sell the chicks to unsuspecting parents who want to give their kids an "Easter Pet".

      We didn't observe Easter as a religious holiday, but every  year my mother would let my sister and I pick out an "Easter Chick" to raise. (These were actually leghorn chicks). When they began to put on real (white ) feathers, we gave them to my grandmother's neighbor, who still had chickens.

      Yes, I'm sure it was not good to have those dye jobs, but they were fun to look at, to a child of about 7.

          She learned the hard way that a 45 lb dog eating a 16 ounce milk chocolate bunny was a reaaaaaaaaaaly baaaaaad idea -- I was cleaning up geysers that came from both ends for days.

          The Alaskan Malamute - Missy - was a much happier 85 lb dog who got away with eating chocolate more often than I care to remember. (She also was very good at stealing my roommate's coffee in the morning and her beer whenever it was in a glass.)

          Ember, the small brown dog, learned her lesson well: now, whenever I ask her if she'd like some chocolate (the first incident was a "theft" of hers -- there have been no repeats), she turns green and shakes/wags her entire body as if to say "Oh, noooooooooo....!"

          So, she learned several important things:

          1. Chocolate is yummy,

          2. Eating chocolate is fun, but gets her very very very sick (she may or may not realize it could kill her),

          3. If I ever offer her chocolate, say "no!"

          All in all, it was worth at least one day of the cleanup effort.

          (I suppose the other two days are banked for future credits...?)

          Never, never brave me, nor my fury tempt:

            •  I know -- I forget sometimes that not everyone

              knows me, my dogs or how I care for them.

              Ember had found and stolen a 16 ounce chocolate bunny -- I discovered it that day, and had to sit vigil with her until the crisis had passed.  She was very lucky.

              She did, however, appear to learn that chocolate was the reason for her discomfort, and thus acts quite put out if I offer her some -- she reacts negatively (and turns green) while my wife sharply and sternly yells NO! at me.

              I had the unfortunate duty of informing a friend that his family's small puppy was not likely to survive as it was exhibiting signs of chocolate poisoning; it was just after Easter two years ago.

              I suspect that the youngest child shared his take of candy with the dog.

              ...so yeah, I'm quite seriously aware of the danger.

              But thank you for reiterating and providing a link for those who don't know, and esp. for those who don't know me and weird sense of humor.  I'd never give any chocolate to the dogs in actuality -- I was ticked to learn that the chocolate bunny had been put where the dog could get it.

              It's an episode that has never been repeated with any other chocolate, even tho the little one appears to have learned an invaluable lesson.

      All edible chocolate is just sugar and fat (and degrees of milk solids).  With "white chocolate" you must read the label carefully to see if it contains cocoa butter as the fat.  If it does, it actually is white chocolate rather than just candy.

    because so many of them end up just dumped or discarded by their human owners after Easter, or pecked to death when they're put with other chickens because of their unconventional color.

    We rescued a duck given to our neighbors as an Easter present. It was living alone in their back yard, being kept barely alive on table scraps tossed out to it, no water to swim in, trying to "flock" with the dogs on the other side of a chain link fence. We took it to a bird sanctuary. That was one happy bird when it finally got its feet in some water and was able to hang out with other ducks.
