as some of the pie fights and KO diaries. That's one Hell of second diary there, snappy.
I think you were able to put into one very well-written and revealing diary what must be happening by the tens or hundreds of thousands all around the country.
What keeps me up at night about the Clinton story is that there were other forces out there that once were their legitimate nemesis; but their self-destruction of late came all at their own hands and they were done in by their own remarks and particularly their attitudes. Nobody likes a sore loser, particularly when they start acting sore long before they actually lose.
It was very hard to watch for those of us who initially held no ill will for either of them but who developed ugly feelings by their reactions.
by snafubar on Thu Mar 27, 2008 at 08:17:01 PM PDT
because your compassionate story shows the reader the way to reconciliation. When I stepped into the political blogosphere a few months back, I wasn't really shocked by the ugliness but I was disturbed that persons self-identifying as supporters of Barack Obama were in the thick of it, apparently unaware of the blatant disconnect between their champion's example and their own rude and reactionary posts. Much of it would have been right at home on a sports fan blog. We all know that the Bush years have been marked by displays of public rudeness from pundits and politicians to the point that we resolved to change channels or turn off the set when people began yelling and talking over one another on "news" shows. Many of us want to restore respect and civility to the political conversation but old habits die hard. As you aptly observe, losing hurts and Sen. Clinton's supporters have been subjected to a lot more of it than those in "the movement." When the tables recently turned on us, we got a taste of defeat and we didn't like it. I view the insults and talking points as vestiges of the old system where the truth isn't a major consideration; it's about pushing people's buttons to get them to act. We view the other side as bad and stupid and feel justified in acting out verbally. We're so used to the old game that a candidate whose words and nonverbals convey that we're intelligent and deserving of respect seems strange and refreshing. People who were ready to condemn Sen. Obama changed their minds as they listened to "the speech." When we rise to that standard of thoughtful, honest and respectful communication in addressing those who disagree with us, we become the change we're hoping for. Right here, right now.

It's bad enough that Hillary's trying to slime her way into the nomination against the will of the people, trying to destroy Obama's chances should he get the nomination, and devastating the entire Democratic party in the process, but the fact that she's doing it on Fox News, of all places, makes me truly, physically ill.
I would like to think that there are depths to which she will not sink, but I have yet to see them.

I don't think she wants to wreck the party. I think it's possible she doesn't yet understand that she can't just "win" this thing without doing damage. She probably thinks she can and everyone will march behind her.
It's not that I think she doesn't CARE if she wrecks the dem party. I think she doesn't realize that is what would happen at this point if she won the nom (presumabily by superdelegate votes).

It was nice to hear Hillary return briefly to the Democratic side of the fence today, but I'm not yet convinced that this was anything more than a temporary manifestation of one of her nice personalities -- I fully expect her crazy, destructive, essentially personalities to emerge again tomorrow (or, more likely, they emerged later on in that speech but I didn't see the footage).
It will take more than one remark to make me believe she is willing to put the interests of the party ahead of her own ambition.
Hillary has shown zero concern for the Democratic party in the past few weeks. Threatening to take it all the way to the convention and stage a credentials committee battle is just the latest and greatest example. (And please don't get me started on how utterly transparently cynical and disingenuous her new-found concern for the sacred enfranchisement of Michigan & Florida voters is, or how utterly transparently dishonest her attacks on Obama in regards to this have been.)

"I'm not against all wars. I'm against dumb wars." Barack Obama

When I was a young teen (eons ago), at a family reunion...my mother & aunts were playing pinocle. I had watched Mom & Dad play since I was little, so I asked if I could join in. Sure...they would all help. So at one point, when we were bidding, I bid up to '38'. They were all astonished. So my Mom asked to look at my cards to see what I had in my hand...I didnt have any 2 alike. 'Why did you bid up to 38?" she asked. Well, Maverick always 'bluffed'.....end of game. (much hysterical laughter)

remember when he looked young and handsome in the "Rockford Files" when he wasn't actually that young then...
He looks like a cross between Larry King and Alan Greenspan in that picture.

coming around the corner---this is it: Iraq is going to be very bloody again for the next few weeks. Time for it to get back into peoples consciousness---what a waste of 5 years; lives and dollars.

Maybe Bush & Company® didn't say it often enough.

are the hope for our future. My 3 nephews are all in college. A future (violinist) music teacher, a journalism major (if he hasnt changed his mind...was writing a story about Iraq), another teacher. These are only typical stories. What about the children of those dead and injured. We can never repay them. I think the best way to repay them is to make sure their 'buddies' come home now! Make sure we never, ever START another war. No oil, or gold, or POWER is worth what this war & Vietnam have cost! War is justified when we've been attacked (like Pear Harbor & NYC & Wash DC & Shanksville, Pa), but we should not start wars (for the whim of a %$#$#@ like Bush/Cheney (there are no words)), we should not torture, we should not allow others to torture in our name. God help us all. On this, I agree with Rev Wright: 'our chickens have come home to roost'. Those who castigate him for these words dont remember the words of Osama Bin Laden :
'HUNTING BIN LADEN' IS ABOUT 25 PAGES OF A PBS TRANSCRIPT--MARCH 2000 ON PAGE 11 THERE IS A DIRECT QUOTATION FROM USAMA BIN LADEN: [through interpreter] The call to wage war against America was made because America has spearheaded a crusade against Islam, sending thousands of its troops to the land of the two holy mosques, meddling in Saudi affairs and politics and supporting its oppressive, corrupt and tyrannical regime. These are the reasons behind singling out America as a target.
'HUNTING BIN LADEN' While we, Americans, may disagree with his logic, these are Bin Laden's reasons.

Waxman Scheds Hearing for Twenty-Something Arms Contractor By Paul Kiel - March 27, 2008, 2:47PM Dude! It's time to testify before Congress! House sleuth Henry Waxman (D-CA) read the news today, oh boy. And he wants 22 year-old AEY President Efraim Diveroli, his 25 year-old VP (and masseur) David Packouz, and the company's general manager, also 25, to testify before Congress about how they managed to get a $300 million U.S. contract to supply (sometimes forty year-old) ammunition to the Afghan Army, among other contracts. Waxman also wants officials from the Department of Defense and Department of State to appear as well. He's set the date of April 17th.
