6,500 Blue Majority Donations! Let's keep going.

We just topped our goal of 6,500 donations our Blue Majority candidates!

Thank all of you for getting us there, and here's some incentive to keep going to meet the next goal, 1,000 contributors per candidate.

CQ has been surveying the Congressional landscape, and it looks pretty damned encouraging:

Last week’s Jigsaw Politics column about our Senate ratings discussed how the Democrats, though they currently have a razor-thin operational majority of 51 seats, appear more likely than not to expand their majority — and how the idea of the nine-seat gain the party would need for a "filibuster-proof" three-fifths majority, although a considerable longshot, can’t be completely dismissed as crazy talk....

Over the past couple of weeks, CQ Politics changed its ratings on several House races and reported news developments in other races for which ratings had been changed earlier. All but one of these changes reflected improved Democratic chances....

As many of these races indicate, the Republican Party’s ability to seriously make a dent in the 30-seat loss they suffered in 2006, or even to maintain the ground they currently hold, is compromised by a big disparity between them and the Democrats in their relative number of open seats, which tend to be more difficult to defend than those in which incumbents are running. The Republicans currently are defending 25 seats of members who voluntarily left them open to retire or pursue other offices, to just six for the Democrats.

And on top of all this, the most recent money reports showed that the financially strapped Republican minority has little cash on hand to use as "venture capital" to promote its candidates’ takeover bids in Democratic-held districts. The National Republican Congressional Committee, the party’s House campaign unit, had just $5.1 million cash on hand as of the end of February, compared to $38 million reported by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Help make the NRCC's job that much harder by giving to a Blue Majority candidate, and putting all of our candidates over the 1,000 donor mark. We've reached that goal for everyone but Noriega, Seals, Trauner, Garcia, and Byrne. Let's get them there.

  Hey everyone,

  I know he isn't listed on the Blue Majority page (at least not yet), but please give a few bucks to George Fearing in Washington's 4th District.  Our campaign is gearing up as time goes on, and I really do think we can take this seat this year, despite the uphill climb.  George is a great candidate; one of the first to sign on to the Responsible Plan to End the War, a leader on health care issues and civil liberties.  We're at about $100,000 to close out the quarter, so we're officially crossing that "better start taking us seriously" threshold.  And I don't have to tell any of you how sweet it would be to boot Doc Hastings from his seat.

  Keep an eye out for this race.  I promise you'll hear more about it in the coming months.  Throw us a few dolalrs George's way.  Central Washington can and will turn blue.

    Please contribute a few bucks to his campaign.

    He's running for Jim Ramstad's seat (Ramstad is stepping down after 20 some years) and is the clear frontrunner for the DFL nomination.  Ashwin's a good guy.  Smart, inspiring speaker, was a marine with time spent in Iraq.  I went to high school with him and have met him through my work for the Al Franken campaign.  

    Guess I should plug my boss as well.  Al is going to be phenomenal!

      I think it would be neat to have a second tier for Blue Majority, maybe?  For folks who have a stiffer battle to face, like George and Ashwin, but could quite definitely pull it off in a year like this.  The more heavily contested battles we have, the more difficult we make this for the NRCC.

  Democrats in Texas need a voice in congress.  Last year, according to Congressional Quarterly, Noriega's opponent, John Cornyn, backed President Bush more often than all but two other senators.  I love this quote from the Texas Monthly's BurkaBlog:

  Rick Noriega could defeat John Cornyn. The Democrats can win a majority in the Texas House of Representatives. The consummate irony is that George W. Bush, who made Texas a Republican state on his way in to the presidency, may make it a Democratic state on his way out.

  Rick has set a goal of raising 35,000 by 3/31 and is is about $5,000 from his goal. Please help put him over the top!  Every donation, large or small, will help.
