Obama's goal is the same as ours--a Democratic/PROGRESSIVE majority. He took the time to address us, at DKos. He obviously knows the importance of this part of the blogosphere, so let's give him credit for that at least. Not many others in Congress or the Senate do that (Boxer, Conyers, Slaughter, Corzine are the only others that come to mind, I may have left a few out).
I happen to think he is brilliant, but that also disagreed with some of what he said. One thing I did agree with is that we cannot excommunicate a politician based on one vote. Yes, it is fair that we ask them to defend their vote (something Reid would not do on Franken this week on the Bankruptcy Bill), but do we need to basically destroy them on one vote?
Roberts was the best our side could ask for, because let's face it, he was getting in no matter what, he had 55 votes. That was before hearings started. Now, if there is a wingnut candidate for the Court this time, then yes, it is time to expect and DEMAND that our Democrats are unified. Obama, I believe made that known in his post. Let's not walk away from him for it. Dissent is OK, isn't that what we say to the other side, we can still respect our Senators with whom we disagree on certain issue.
Remember, his speech at the Convention showed and his commencement address at Knox College last spring showed that he is the future standard bearer of Progressive ideals. HE IS ONE OF US. The DLC hits on him were unfair and if anyone did their research, Obama made it clear to them he wanted no part of the DLC when they tried to post him as a member. I'll say it one more time---HE IS ONE OF US.
