This diary will be brief--I'm working my butt off for Obama in Austin, and I don't have a lot of time to blog.
Many of us have expressed the opinion that Hillary would be willing to destroy the Democratic Party to secure the nomination. But I don't think any of us ever expected her to even stoop this low--explicitly saying that McCain would be a better President than Obama.
Apparently, Hillary told reporters in Fort Worth that both she and McCain have the experience to be President, but that Obama brings nothing but speeches to the table.
Full quote below the fold.
While Hunter and I are working on a new comment rendering system to handle huge comment threads like this, it isn't ready yet. Thus, comments disabled for now. -ct
Hillary Clinton told reporters that both she and the presumtive Republican nominee John McCain offer the experience to be ready to tackle any crisis facing the country under their watch, but Barack Obama simply offers more rhetoric. "I think you'll be able to imagine many things Senator McCain will be able to say," she said. "He’s never been the president, but he will put forth his lifetime of experience. I will put forth my lifetime of experience. Senator Obama will put forth a speech he made in 2002."
I don't exactly know what to say about this, because if I expressed my true opinion about this comment, it would be a stream of vituperous invective that would likely get my tip jar hiderated.
She is completely willing to write John McCain's talking points for him if it helps her secure the nomination, which is at this point increasingly unlikely.
Critiquing Obama--that's one thing. Saying that Insane McCain would be a better President than Obama, simply because it helps perpetuate her "experience" narrative? absolutely shameful.
I don't know how any self-respecting Democrat who values the future of the Democratic Party could still campaign for her. She has shown no limits.
as an update, I'd like to call your attention to the following:
"[McCain’s] never been the president, but he will put forth his lifetime of experience.
Now, is it just me, or is Hillary pretty much explicitly saying that she has basically been the President already?
I have more phonebanking to do. As if I needed the extra motivation.
