With all of the
talk that Kerry is considering choosing a running mate sooner rather than later (barring, of course, a precipitous fall from grace), the AP seemed to have a fitting headline concerning the
economic speech Vilsack gave in DC today:
"Possible Running Mate Rips Bush in D.C."
I see him as a relatively safe DLC-leaning potential choice for Kerry who would "do no harm," and not piss off as many on the left as Breaux or Bayh would. He also might be seen by many in the press as another superficial "fresh face." I still think Kerry should - and could afford to - do something more dramatic with his pick. But with this speech, Vilsack becomes perhaps the first real, active entrant in the 2004 Veepstakes.
