Rep. Nadler still undecided/Honk-to-Impeach Friday

Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 06:37:19 PM PDT

The Town Hall Meeting/Impeachment Forum I have been yammering on about is happening this Sunday in NYC (details below the fold).  Congressman Nadler is one of the invited speakers and as of this morning his scheduler still did not know if Rep. Nadler will be attending.  If you are as interested as I am in hearing what he has to say about this issue, please call his office and ask him to attend.  And if you find anything out about his plans please email me or info-at-AskNadler2Impeach.org and let us know.  Congressman Nadler's schedulers can be reached at the Manhattan office 212.367.7350 and in DC at 202.225.5635.

If you're not working or otherwise busy, please join us for a Honk-to-Impeach outside Rep. Nadler's Manhattan office Friday afternoon.  We'll be on the southwest corner of Varick and King Streets (right by the entrance to the 1 train) at 3:00 pm for an hour or longer if the weather is warm.  Bring a sign and a thumbs up for the honkers.

The Town Hall Meeting/Impeachment Forum is this Sunday, March 9th, from 4-6pm at Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South.  The focus of the forum is to address the question Is Impeachment Necessary to Protect the Constitution? It will feature Constitutional scholar Bruce Fein, former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman, Harper's contributor Scott Horton, and John Nirenberg, who walked 458 miles from Boston to DC to raise the question of impeachment with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, as speakers.

This forum presents an excellent opportunity to learn more about impeachment and to bring a friend, neighbor, co-worker or family member who might benefit from hearing from the experts.  AskNadler2Impeach.org is pleased to be able to present these excellent speakers for free thanks to the generosity of individual contributors and support from the Village Independent Democrats, the Chelsea Reform Democratic Club, Democracy for NYC, and Progressive Democrats of New York CD 14 and CD 8.

Please help spread the word.  A pdf version of this notice, suitable for printing, can be downloaded at: asknadler2impeach.org.  Feel free one and all to post printed copies in your buildings and in stores around your neighborhood.  You can also link to AskNadler2Impeach.org in your emails where people can sign the petition and find out more about this group.

For information call 212.340.9548 or email info at asknadler2impeach.org.

Most important, put the date on your calendar, and be sure to attend!  And, yep, for those outside of New York, it will be taped and possibly webcast.

AskNadler2Impeach.org has launched a website to host a petition asking Nadler to support Rep. Robert Wexler's call for impeachment hearings in the HJC.  Please go here to sign the petition.

about a half a block in from the rudolf steiner school where the #6 bus stops.  parker place is just above the prep school (can't remember the name).  i used to be able to cut through their athletic field to get down to uh, except during extreme rainy season when the path would become a river. i LOVED living in manoa.  only place i like as much on the island is lanikai.

                  and where was your ohana?

i lived on seaview for one semester.  it's not a bad street, but parker place was heaven.  the rudolf steiner school is on the corner right at the top of the hill just above uh where you enter the mountain valley.  if you go right you go around to the back of safeway.  if you straight on manoa you end up at the front of the  safeway shopping center.  i used to work in the artgallery/frame shop there.

                      •  Same seaview house ? (0+ / 0-)

two mango trees in the back yard ,
                        rooms rented by John ?

but not the same house.  this was a duplex and i subrented from marilyn and her two adolescent daughters.  they were a lovely family to live with and i have often wondered where those girls are now.  no mango trees that i remember.  we were so close to uh, that you could see it from my lanai, but it was also nearly 5 degrees warmer there than in the lush green of the crater floor.  on parker place my room included a view across manoa valley at the different layers of green and in the winter months i could see rivers and waterfalls and there were rainbows nearly every afternoon.  it was so cool in the winter that i slept in a flannel nightgown.  in the back yard there was a papaya tree and a natural amphitheatre.  robert cazimero was friendly with one of my housemates and sang there one night at a party.  we also hosted some amazing hula performances.  i was blessed.  the property was large enough to hold one five bedroom house with four baths and a smaller home with two bedrooms and a fabulous open air bath and shower. the larger house had a large stone paved lanai that stretched the length of the house, a verandah really.  it was magic. the last time i was in honolulu i wandered down parker place and couldn't find either house.  then i realized that someone had torn down the smaller house in the front yard and built a larger tudor in it's place that blocked the view of the larger house.  this conversation has taken me to a time in my past that i treasure.  thanks so much for bringing me back there.

did you eat and shop at down-to-earth?

being in NY.  I know that there are things in NY that you can't get anywhere else, but I can't imagine waking up to the noise and the no mountains landscape every day.

Do Democrats love democracy?  Stay tuned to find out....

Gotta try to ambush Tom Udall, my critter, on this matter.  He's out there trying to move up to the Senate -- a stand on impeachment is the least we ought to expect.

Forgot to mention above that Pete Stark from CA became the 26th member of Congress to sponsor H. Res. 333.  This was in response to polling his constituents as he shares in this letter:

I’d like to thank the thousands of people who took the time to respond to my constituent survey and invite folks to review the preliminary results below. If you have not yet completed the survey, you are encouraged to make your voice heard in the final online tally.

As your Representative in Congress, I work hard to advance your values. Thankfully, your priorities are a pleasure to stand up for. Survey results confirm our community cares deeply about our children, families, and schools.

Based on preliminary results, I have already taken several important actions. First, I co-sponsored House Resolution 333. If passed, this resolution would impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. Doing so is necessary before we can impeach President George Bush.

Second, I will redouble efforts to work with colleagues to move forward legislation that would allow the millions of uninsured people age 55 through 64 to buy into Medicare. Third, I will continue to oppose retroactive immunity for the telecommunications companies that complied with the Administration’s warrantless wiretapping program.

You are invited to attend March, April, and May town meetings and continue to make your voice heard.
       Sincerely,
       Pete

Interesting that Pete Stark is holding town meetings whereas Rep. Nadler can't decide to show up at one his constituents have organized because he refused to do it himself.
