Drip Drip: Indiana Endorsements For Obama Con't....(4.9.08)

Senator Barack Obama is having many silent victories.  Though some may believe that my home state will end up backing Hillary, IN political figures are slowly but surely, throwing their support behind Obama.

A week or so ago,25 Lawmakers stood together to endorse Obama at the IN Statehouse in Indianapolis, IN. It was reported almost in passing, as many, if not most of them are not superdelegates.

My feeling is that people are really putting a lot of weight on the fact that Evan Bayh is backing Hillary... when honestly... I don't think that people care too much about Mr. Bayh anymore... maybe a couple of years ago, but not now.  I'm not even sure if he even resides in Indiana at this time.

According to Howey Politics, however, Obama has picked up some interesting support.. once again, underreported:

Bill Ruckleshaus, the deputy attorney general who resigned during the "Saturday Night Massacre" at the heighth of President Nixon’s Watergate scandal, has endorsed Barack Obama for president.

Someone close to the famously racist Nixon is endorsing Obama for president?
Well then.. I won't be satisfied till he rejects and denounces Nixon's bones.  Why'd he keep going back to the White House? :)

As 'red' as this state is, it's still surprising to me to see a Republican endorse Obama.

South Bend, Goshen and Michigan City Mayors endorse Obama

South Bend Mayor Stephen Luecke (left) endorsed U.S. Sen. Barack Obama for president at South Bend Washington High School Wednesday night. "I endorse Barack Obama because he cxnnects our minds and our hearts," Luecke said. Also endorsing Obama was Michigan City Mayor Chuck Oberlie and Goshen Mayor Alan Kauffman.

If I could walk across the state with a round number on a large white board above my head in a swimsuit, I think it would be appropriate.

•  The Bill Ruckelshaus endorsement is

  interesting.  For those old enough to recall the Saturday Night Massacre -- which includes much of HRC's demographic -- Ruckelshaus will be remembered for his principled stand that he would rather resign as Deputy Atty. General than fire Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox (who was pressing the White House to turn over the Nixon tapes).  This endorsement won't cause mass defections from Clinton voters, but it may encourage some undecideds to give Obama a closer look.

    It was my first semester in law school, and when my friends and I heard the news we went to a licensed establishment to ponder the state of the nation. We were convinced at the time that Nixon was about to blow up the Constitution and play a game of chicken with Congress and the courts.

•  As far as I know, the only time Evan Bayh

  lived in Indiana was when he was governor.  He grew up in Washington.  I think he visited Indiana in the summers.  

  Hopefully, the conclusion that Hoosiers will draw from Evan's endorsement is that political dynasties are a bad thing, whether your name is Bayh or Clinton.

  In a representative democracy, I don't think politics should be treated as the family business. (sorry Adams and Roosevelt families).

    Throughout the Republican sections of Indiana, where Libertarians are the second party and Democrats the third there will be contested Republican primaries.  Get all the Rushbots to raise hell with the Democratic primary, and they will not be voting in the Republican primary for the wingnuttiest of the available candidates.

      And it's no credit to the Kerry campaign that it was less active in Merrillville (a Democratic stronghold) than the Obama campaign is in Martinsville (former KKK stronghold).
