July 4, 2008: cognitive dissonance day for Republicans

Independence Day: for us, July 4th. For Iraq, who knows?
This July 4th, like each one since the March 2003 invasion of Iraq, Republicans will wear their flag lapel pins and declare their love for our great country. Why do they love our country? To me it seems like Republicans only love it because they were born here. The founding ideas for our country are the same reasons why the Iraqi civilians are fighting US troops.  

We have a few months before July 4, 2008: Let's prepare to ask Republicans some hard and pointed questions on that day. I think we will cause them to realize their cognitive dissonance, first. Then, we can help them to understand history, and learn from it.

Remember the Boston Tea party? Beginning of the fight for independence for the USA, and fought because we believed WE should control and profit from goods within our country - not give them to some imperial government trying to rule us from afar. King George has put us in the role of Great Britain to the colonies.

Question stream #1 for Republicans: Were the colonies right to fight for freedom, and to become the independent United States of America? If so, why?

Question stream #2 for Republicans: If the USA colonists were right to fight imperial powers that profited from their work and resources, and to take control of their country... why aren't the Iraqis?

Question stream #3 for Republicans: What do you celebrate on this 4th of July? (Followed quickly after their response, by:) Why do Iraqi's have to give oil profits to the US? With Blackwater able to kill Iraqi citizens for no cause (and with immunity), the US embassy set up in the ex-royal palace in the Green Zone, hugely profitable no-bid contracts going to US companies that ineptly fail to sanitize the water or provide electric power, how can the US not be called an imperial power?  Oh, and by the way, what are we celebrating on July 4th that you think is so great, again?

Independence: good for us, good for Iraq. I  hope other people will join me in preparing to ask these question of Republicans, on July 4th, 2008. Or as I like to call it, Cognitive Dissonance Day for imperialists.

  I suggest the day before King George relinquishes his throne, as a possibility for national recognition as Worst President's Day. Followed the following morning by his transport to the Hague. Under the terms of "extraordinary rendition" of course, because it is of grave import to national security. Who's with me?

  capitalism in our Constitution?  Republicans don't believe in the Constitution, they believe in capitalism.

  •  Capitalism is mandated by Article 1 Section 8

    Under Powers of Congress.  And to some extent by Section 9 which follows, describing Limits of that power.

    Congress is given relatively little authority over regulating the economy by the constitution.

    Then you've also got the reserved powers clause, the 10th amendment:

    ...powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people

    That's where capitalism comes from.

    The only reason our economy is as regulated as it is today is because of widespread abuse of the Commerce Clause.
