UPDATEDx3::LIVE BLOG: Clinton---Obama Faith Forum on CNN

Here's a live blog thread for the faith forum on CNN, which is slated for 8PM ET. Initially, I almost wrote, "LIVE BLOOD" instead of "LIVE BLOG" as the diary title. I guess it's because of all the "BitterGate" threads popping up today.

I'm mystified by this firestorm happening. I was traveling this weekend and didn't hear anything about it until I got back into D.C. Anyways, word is Clinton is slated to come up first, so use this as a live blogging thread to catalogue her statements, however offensive or hilarious, here. Then will come Obama, where hopefully he'll have a chance to address any misleading comments she makes.

      Look, it is fine to rant about the last thing Hillary said, though I happen to think Bush admitting to torture meetings is worth a bit more outrage. But please read what you just wrote:

      Mind you, this is before either of them have said anything. I'm sorry, this is beyond the pail.

      Sorry for jumping the thread, but please, it is not too late to edit. Remember, this is a live blog, some of us don't have TVs and are relying on this for some kind of sense of what actually is happening, not just how much kossacks like or dislike the candidates a priori.

        But as far as "morality" goes, if a person believes every word of the Bible, they'd wind up becoming almost schizophrenic. I'm mainly talking Old Testament (though NT has some weird stuff too). But for every thing in the OT saying anything about doing good ("moral") things, there's at least one other saying just the opposite. Much of the OT is taylor-made for sadists.

  Actually, I know someone who is attending, and someone who might be attending. She lives in the college community and was on the wait list for the forum. So maybe she's there (Green shirt, she said), getting the last seat in the house.

  She told me about having to bag up the leaves she raked earlier, because lots o dignitaries are driving past her house on the way to campus.

    it was not long before Super Tuesday. So excitement was big in CA, but they're from PA, so eh, wotever. At the time, they were for Clinton, but she told me that the race speech did it for her.

    She says that it's really interesting to be at the center of the political whirlwind.

     I have been in meetings with the Clintons and their advisors where very clinical things were said in a very-detached tone about unwillingness of working class voters to trust government -- and Bill Clinton -- and about their unfortunate (from a Clinton perspective) proclivity to vote on life-style rather than economic issues. To see Hillary going absolutely over the top to smash Obama for making clearly more humanly sympathetic observations in this vein, is just amazing. Even more so to see her pretending to be a gun-toting non-elite. Give us a break!

     I wonder if she realizes that gaining a few days of lurid publicity that might reach a slice of voters is going to cost her a great deal in the regard of many Democrats, whose strong support she will need if she somehow claws her way to the nomination -- and even more so if she does not clinch the nomination. The distribution of "we're not bitter" stickers to her campaign rallies is the height of over-the-top crudity, and the reports are that very few audience members seem to have much enthusiasm for this nonsense. Not surprisingly, people cannot see the reasons for so much fuss.

     Yes, she wants a big break, she desperately wants the nomination she and Bill believe is hers by right. We all know that. But where is her authenticity and her dignity and her sense of any proportion?

     This has to be one of the few times in U.S. political history when a multi-millionaire has accused a much less wealthy fellow public servant, a person of the same party and views who made much less lucrative career choices, of "elitism"! (I won't say the only time, because U.S. political history is full of absurdities of this sort.) In a way, it is funny -- and it may not be long before the jokes start.

    For those who are interested in faith, and how we deal with faith in our lives, Rev. Wright's comments are actually not that out there. Even conservative Christian preachers get carried away.

    For those of use who struggle with making sense of the gospel and its radical demands, Wright was actually tame.
