Have A Talk With God

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 10:41:10 AM PDT

What did Obama essentially say in his now famous "bitter" comment?

I had a sudden realization that what he said reminds me of an old Stevie Wonder song.

There are people who have let the problems of today
Lead them to conclude that for them life is not the way
But every problem has an answer and if yours you cannot find
You should talk it over to Him
He'll give you peace of mind
When you feel your life's too hard
Just go have a talk with God

Many of us feel we walk alone without a friend
Never communicating with the One who lives within
Forgetting all about the One who never ever lets you down
And you can talk to him anytime He's always around
When you feel your life's too hard
Just go have a talk with God

Well He's the only free psychiatrist that's known throughout the world
For solving problems of all men, women, little boys and girls
When you feel your life's too hard
Just go have a talk with God
When you feel your life's too hard
Just go have a talk with God
When your load's too much to bear
Just go talk to God He cares
I know he does

When you feel your life's too hard
Just go have a talk with God

No one ever said that this song sounded elitist. By the way, it's also a great song if you have never heard it.

Update: you can listen to the song: http://www.youtube.com/...

I'm more of a supporter of him than ever!!

    •  Word. (0+ / 0-)

It's disturbing to hear HRC use the word "elitist" as a pejorative because that is the second half of a carefully crafted right wing pejorative used by right wing propagandists to demonize democrats:  "liberal elitists"

Next thing you know, she'll be denouncing science and teaching religion in public school.

  •  And, if talking to God don't work... (0+ / 0-)

grab a gun and shoot something.

  •  nothing new (0+ / 0-)

I have my own thoughts on God and if somebody told me I was clining to God, I would be pissed. And if CAli ever lets me have a gun, I'm getting one, and I won't be clining to that either. That said, I think the people he was talking about are pretty used to being slightly looked down upon by everybody else as primitive yokels, so I don't see how this is anything out of the ordinary. At least Obama didn't say they cling to their sisters.

    •  Right Wing Email Circuit (0+ / 0-)

I cannot tell you how many right wing emails I've fielded over the past 8 years that emphasized GOD and guns as points of distinction between so called "liberals" and "conservatives."

You see, "liberal elitists" hate God, want to remove God from our governmental institutions and want to prevent you from going to Church and embracing Jesus.

"Liberal elitists" also want to take your guns, which you might need for hunting, or insurrection.

Right wing talk radio and emails focus on these issues because they are the low hanging fruit.  Most Americans love God and guns.  Charging "liberal elitists" with hating those two things gives the red state conservative a moral perch upon which to loathe democrats and essentially blame them for everything that is wrong in their lives, from taxation to immigration.

Can anyone deny that it is a right wing strategy to use these propaganda techniques to harness middle American economic frustration and turn them against democrats?  wakey uppey.
