Gore Test Balloon on Charlie Rose

Tonight on Charlie Rose in discussing Obama's bitterness quote, the last of the program raised the issue of Gore coming to the floor at the convention.

Also Charlie Rose did show Obama addressing the same bitter issues in 2004 with out the pressure and fatigue of totally comapaigning.  It was interesting that he played the clip after the discussion so that there was no analysis of it by the group.

Gore issue below the fold.

Test balloons usually do not carry a lot of data.  It is to attract what reaction there is and see how it plays.

Essentially, what was said is that within the bowels of the democratic party there was increasing fear that the two canidates are so destoying themselves that neither can win in November just like neither can win by pledged delegates.  Both Pundits said they had never seen such tatics employed before particularly by the Clinton campaign.

They said there was strong reasoning that Clinton  had so destroyed the AA vote that they would not turn out in November if Obama is not the canidate.  They sited that many people were deeply offended and unforgiving about the remarks of crossing the threshold for commander in chief while Obama only had a speech.

OTOH, women may not turn out for Obama and feel their time has been undually past over.  If women do not turn out for Obama in November he can't win either.

Thus, each has succeeded in obliterating a major voting advantage over the republicans.  Thus making each unelectable.

So the balloon went up.  The only one with the power and prestige to unite the democratic party is Al Gore.  And thus the segment ended.

Clowns like Charlie Rose, establishment asslick, parroting the same old establishment bullshit like the latest Acme instant concoctroversy.

    Sorry, I just can't take this shit seriously. The only relevant point to be extracted from this diary is that the establishment media of which Rose is a reigning member, is trying to manipulate yet another American election. And the funny thing is, we're paying them to do it. They're using our airwaves, and taking our campaign contributions to pay media whores like Charlie Rose and Worlf blitzer to sit around and talk about whether people are bitter or not.

    But god damn I like cake. I could eat it every day.

    hillary has burned her bridges, but obama has been pretty careful not to demonize those who vote for his rival, or dismiss them. against mccain, he'll do quite well with women.

  •  I'd like to see Gore as 'energy czar'

    We can't afford to have him waste his time on the ceremonial crap that goes with the VP gig, nor do I think he would accept the VP nomination. Actually, I think that Obama would derive more good press by persuading Gore to accept an "energy czar" job and announcing it ASAP.

    I just wish we had somebody comparable to handle the economy. (i.e. somebody who's really as good as the media have been telling us Greenspan is for the last generation) And  that "somebody" is not Krugman or Rubin.

  endorse Obama immediately after Hillary insulted him.  If he endorses at all, he would wait a bit longer.

  What planet does Hillary live on?  Gore won in 2000.

  The chickens have come home to roost for Hillary.  She went to negative and many will not vote for her, if by some miracle, she got the nomination.   There was a recent poll that indicates about 18% of elderly white woman have switched to Obama in PA because of Hillary's negative tactics.  So far Obama hasn't burnt the bridge as Hillary has.

  at least two more anti-choice members of the Supreme Court will bring women back to Obama. (Then again, I'm a white woman who's been with Obama since Edwards dropped out, so we're not the monolith that the punditry portrays us as being). The choice of a strong woman as a VP candidate could also help.

  Above all, I don't want Gore or Edwards riding in on their mighty steed to be the White Knight who has to save us from ourselves -- if they want to try and broker a deal behind the scenes, fine, but I don't want them handed the nomination out of some desire to "unify" the party. That would probably piss off both Clinton and Obama supporters, enough so that Cindy McCain could go ahead and start shopping for china patterns and drapes...

  I love Gore, and I was really hoping he'd run this year.  But he decided not to, and giving the nomination to him like that wouldn't be the kind of compromise that would make everyone happy, it would be the kind of compromise that would make everyone furious.  

  On the plus side, it just might be the best way to bring Hillary & Obama supporters together, in joint rage!

  The reason I will personally stick with Obama is how panicky the media and pundits are getting.  The manipulation attempts are just so blatant you would have to be both deaf and blind not to understand.

  I think most superdelegates whom Hillary Clinton has pissed off will go for Obama, even if they still have doubts about him.

  But if we were in an imminent crisis in August--total economic breakdown, or war with Iran--many of the superdelegates would begin to revisit their doubts about the candidates' lack of experience, and they wouldn't vote for either Hillary or Obama. And in that case, we would have a deadlock and Gore would emerge as the compromise nominee, with Obama as VP.

  Short of such an imminent emergency, I don't see it happening. Absent that kind of impetus, they'll act for the sake of party unity by supporting one or the other of the announced candidates, most likely Obama.

  There was a point at which I hoped Gore would enter the race... but at this point it looks like Obama will be our nominee and I am totally comfortable with that, which was not the case 6-12 months ago.  At this point Gore getting involved would do more harm than good IMO.

  We've never had as good of a campaign since  Bill Clinton as the one Obama is running.

  I understand people would like a white candidate that don't think a black person can win but the mistakes and the way Kerry and Gore ran their campaigns was pathetic compared to Obama.

•  If the delegates elect a candidate

  who has not been on the ballot in any of the ballots (or who withdrew before most of the states voted), they will literally spit in the face of every voter who cast a ballot.

  Hillary stealing the nomination has (slightly) less chance of destroying the party forever than this.

  If the delegates did that & proved that my vote has never and will never count since it can be overridden on a whim, I will never again have reason to vote for a democrat.
