The Democrat running for the CA-04 Congressional seat is (Lt Col, USAF, retired) Charlie Brown of Roseville, CA. Brown came within a few thousand votes of defeating the incumbent Republican in the last election, and started a Democratic renaisance in the Republican tilted district. The Republican, Doolittle, decided to bag out before the next round and imported replacement candidates from out of district, hoping voters wouldn't be familiar with their less attractive qualities, like their Exxon, Enron and Clinton Impeachment type gigs. There is another candidate from Foresthill,in district, who says he is running in the Democratic primary. This candidate has not filed his financial papers with the FEC, no financial committee records can be found by searching the electronic retrieval database, nor does he list any contributions. So, since I therefore have nothing to report on him, he's not going to get mentioned. I don't mind honest primary competition but I don't like the Libertarians who act like cranks, file as Democrats, complain a lot, and then don't file paperwork, they should know better if they were lawyers.
There are 2 Republican Candidates whom have been acting like two rutting elephants from all the noise they have been making fighting over which one is Really an Elephant. They released financial summeries to the press before the documents came online, and the Press, being the Press, just sort of repeated the trumpeting about how Big Trunk Elephant from Afri- Lugrendia spent Lots of Money and Big Tusked Elephant, the Pachydermal Icon, was really from the district because he rented a house in Rocklin years ago when he was pretending to live in Thousand Oaks, at Mummy's House. The Media consensus is that either Elephant will crush whoever else runs by just entering the room, so perhaps the election will be over after the Primary and we can be thankful for 2 more years of Dung. There are two other baby elephants who have filed, but they don't count.
Since I had been watching the FEC site for the documents to come online and didn't get the campaign press releases, I just sort of read the local articles on Elephant Money written by Doolittle's ex staffers, who migrated to a better mud hole, and said, crap, to **** with that, I'm not linking to that stuff, I'll wait until I can actually see what happened.

The Guy from Foresthill, ... nothing.
____________
The Carpetbaggers, er, the Republicans

Now that the imported Republicans are actually fighting about this in public, I'd thought I'd help them by mentioning this more often. One's filthy rich (worth 30 to 50 million) and the other one's a serial campaigner who think's he's famous. Neither are from the district.

•Doug Ose, R, Not From District (but now renting garage in Granite Bay)
aka Beauregard the Big Trunked, used to represent Dan Lungren's district to the south, CA- 03. Pretending to be local, occasionally fools hapless media editors who don't proofread.
Net contributions, OTHER THAN LOANS, Jan 1 thru Mar 31
$ 222,969
Net contributions, cycle to date
$ 222,969
Cash on Hand.......Net Operating Exp
$ 756,330..........$ 729,648
If I am reading another FEC form correctly, Doug Ose has already spent over 3 million dollars in the district this campaign cycle, trying to get himself name recognition. You know why he has to do that? Nobody knows who he is. He forgot since the last time in office the district population exploded and they are clueless.
(You know what we are going to do if he's the nominee? We're going to tell them just exactly what Doug Ose was up to the last time he was in Congress.)
Say what again about the lack of donations, but he's spending $ like Donald Trump ? Ose, starting his campaign using an old, dormant campaign account labeled "Doug Ose for Congress 98", in which he had stashed his loan to himself of a about a half million bucks, has been busy "loaning" himself lots more money and spending it on tv and radio ads and mail flyers, attempting to saturate the airwaves for name recognition because nobody knows who he is in the district. Ose is... having to fund himself.
Now here's the sweetest part:
Ose, Number of donation Transactions, non memo 177, memo, 6 (some of these donations are multiples from the same source )
Wait until I break this sucker down further as the campaign continues and y'all get to see how much Family Ose is giving to Team Ose. Hilarious.
A cursory glance at the list shows that thanks to Family Ose, at least some of his donations are in state if not from in district.
A Headline You Won't See But Should:
Brown,Democrat of Roseville, leading Republican Ose in amount raised and number of individual voter contributions. Ose frantically loaning himself millions in self funding drive

•Tom McClintock, R, Not From District, uses Mummy's address in Thousand Oaks, currently a state senator from SoCal who is about to be termed out.
Aka Big Tusk, aka McDooDuck™ the Republican Icon.

Insists that it doesn't matter that he's not from the district because he lives close enough... that being in Dan Lungren's district, in Elk Grove, even tho he's used "Sacramento" on his filing papers when running for state office. Insists that the State of California pay him a per diem living and commuting fee because he ... doesn't live here, but represents SoCal CA Senate district 19 that butts up against Los Angeles.
You might remember the Republican incumbent and family he seeks to replace lives in Oakton, Virginia, instead of in the district, too. This is what he means by being a good idealogical fit for the district.
McClintock: Jan 1 to Mar 31
Net contributions, other than loans $ 315,978
net contributions, cycle to date: $ 315,978
cash on hand: $ 125,883
number of donation transactions, non memo , 169
a simple manual count of the individual donations, shows that at least 151 of the 169 donations are from OUT OF DISTRICT. I am not sure if there are even that many donations, as there are 2 different tallies if you study the FEC documents and one says 159 total and the other 169.
Highlights of McClintock's donors:
Lots of money from ex presidential candidate Fred Thompson, Jeri Thompson. and "Friends of Fred Thompson." $2300, + 2300, + 2000= 6,600
Grandpa Fred comes thru for McDoo.
Also, lots of money from ex congressional CA-04 candidate and Faux News and Bush PR guy Eric Egland , "Friends of Eric Egland" and his relatives $4000, + 4600.
In case you were wondering, I've also looked at Egland's papers and he was getting very little local money, (which was why he dropped out) so that's less local money in reality for McClintock from those Egland donations.
And lots of Southern CA Indian Casino Money, from at least 4 tribes = $11,000
Another headline you won't see but should:
Democratic Candidate Brown Leading McClintock, R, in number of contributors, McClintock drawing almost no local support, relying heavily on Southern California Casino and Business Interests.

And one more headline:
Brown(D, Roseville) for CA-04, Leads Republicans Ose and McClintock Combined in Number of Contributors, Only Candidate with Strong Local Support
_______________
The other Republican who was the first to jump in the primary when Doolittle said he was not running again, dropped out when McClintock entered the race, Thomas "Rico" Oller, who was also from out of District, San Andreas in Calaveras County, had 122 campaign donors during the reporting quarter. He didn't raise much, about $109,000 (!) which is why he probably dropped out.
He gave over 40 of them their money back in late March. This doesn't absolve him of giving lots of money to Doolittle during the last 2 years, but it's interesting.

At least Suzanne filled her form out right the first time, unlike Doug Ose's treasurer, who left off information like just what office he was running for, and got a RFI from the FEC and had to resubmit it. That new law degree is good for something.

So now we start to get into the nitty gritty of it. We can't wait for the Republicans to start addressing the real issues that are affecting this country... from what I have read of the candidate's statements, seen them speak, and heard about them "debate," they may never address the real issues during this campaign. And we have too much at stake in this election to let them waste it on issues that Congress will never address.
The last thing I want to do is send another Republican back to Congress from this district, not because they are "Republican," but because the ones that are running here don't see this as an opportunity to make other people's lives better but are only doing it for themselves. That and they intend to raise hell on another Democratic President instead of working with them. That sounds harsh,but when you hear one of them say his greatest accomplishment was a tax cut and the other one can't do anything but channel the ghost of Ronald Reagan (and not Reagan's better qualities) and has made an entire career out of voting "no" on everything, plus yaps on and on about "securing the borders" when he's from 400 miles away, how can anyone here expect any sort of representation? The war, inflation, climate change and skyrocketing fuel prices and trouble with our health care system does not even exist to these people. These are flag- pin Republicans.
We need a real life Congressperson. Read this if you want to know what Charlie Brown is really like: http://www.dailykos.com/...

and I loved this one, written so well by a person who met him recently for the first time:

Now that we've encountered and survived the OMG THE REPUBLICAN ICON and the BIG TRUNK HAS ENTERED THE RACE WE COULD BE DOOMED factor, here's a reminder that next Saturday, April 26th, at 10 am will be the first Charlie Brown for Congress door to door canvass of the year, and also voter registration encouragement and live volunteer phone contact- no robocalling. This is a grassroots campaign that depends on and thrives on real live people helping it to grow, not paid political consultants and paid canvassers. You don't need to be experienced, you just need to believe you can do this, and they help you !
So mark the date:
Saturday April 26, 10 am
Charlie Brown for Congress Headquarters, Beautiful Remodeled Downtown Roseville (same place)
332 Lincoln Street
Roseville, CA 95678
We have one thing that Ose and McClintock can only fantasize about... people who are working for a Democratic majority in Congress who are not being paid to do so. That and we aren't hoping nostalgia will save us from ourselves.
