We Got Next, Indiana

Tue Apr 22, 2008 at 09:02:51 PM PDT

I didn't expect Barack Obama to pull out Pennsylvania.  Who actually expected THAT?  All Obama could do was make inroads with groups he had been lacking... and all the data that I have read supports that claim.

It's only Hillary Clinton, who is determined to spin this into something that matters, who is bleeding support.

But that's okay girlie... have your fun and shot of Crown Royal tonight.

I, however, am excited about my home state of Indiana.

Let me tell you Kossacks one thing.... Indiana is NOT in Hillary's pocket from what I have seen here on the ground.

Please note that I can only speak for Central Indiana here....

Here's my reasoning (which I have alluded to in previous diaries):

* I work at a local university.  The Obama ground game is SO hot.... they have a table set up EVERY day in the Campus Center and did a remarkable job getting voters registered.

* The Obama Campaign has a HQ smack dab in the middle of downtown... right off our Monument Circle. It's as visible as can be.  Hillary has offices too, but err umm.. I couldn't tell you where they are located.

* It's my personal opinion that she knows that she doesn't have this state locked up... Bill and Chelsea have been trouncing along in small towns and cities all over Indiana, and they rarely make appearances in big cities here.. kinda telling right?

* I've said it before and I'll say it again.  I've seen more Obama stickers/signs/yard signs then Hillary's... I'd say 4 to 1.  As the days pass I see more Obama bumper stickers.  I can only recall seeing one Hillary yard sign.

* I'm calling it now.  Indianapolis and Bloomington (Home of Indiana University) are Barack Obama's to lose.  Seriously.

* I had an interesting talk with a young guy today.  He was telling me how he grew up in Greensburg, IN and he knows it to be the most racist, bigoted town there is. He advised me that He'd spoken to his grandmother and she said that pretty much the town is Pro-Obama... they don't like Hillary Clinton. He wants me to take him to vote early and I told him I would be glad to drive him there when he's available.  Take that anecdote with a grain of salt of course, but it's interesting nonetheless.

* I have a co-worker who was torn between Hillary and Obama.. has seen them both live and in person at this point. I asked him yesterday what way he's going, and he said he decided Obama and even signed a pledge card for him.

I must say that I'm sorry that this primary is dragging on.  But I cannot lie and say that I'm not excited about the prospect that Indiana now counts.  I've had the opportunity to see Barack Obama up close when he visited Plainfield (a suburb near the airport) and Michelle Obama last week when she visited.  And that was before Pennsylvania.

I can't wait to attend a Barack Obama RALLY.

This man has inspired me to do things I've never done before... that being, donating to a presidential campaign and voting EARLY.

Yes folks.  I voted early here in IN, so my vote is already on the books... I felt slightly more at ease about my early vote when the people working at the courthouse said I was only the 3rd person to have voted that day.. so I rationalized that my vote HAD to have counted because if you only have a small number of people come in to vote, you have to account for that number right?  Well, that's what my scared-my-vote-is-going-to-be-disenfranchised self is rationalizing.

I say all that to say... I'm claiming it. I didn't drink the kool-aid. I don't even drink kool-aid anymore. Though the red kind is still the best.... but seriously... I was on the fence about Hillary and Obama before February.

Indiana is Obama Country. I don't care what ANYBODY says.
