Is A Win, A "Win"?

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 06:34:47 AM PDT

Yes, Sen. Clinton did pull out the victory tonight...but why did she seem so excited?  Personally, I don't think it was excitement.  I think it was more like a relief.  Some polls had this thing neck to neck, and some even had Sen. Obama eeking out a win.  She gets to live another day.

Stubborn one, ain't she?! You have to give her that.

If I'm HRC and cohorts, I wouldn't be smiling for too long.  This was a hollow victory, IMO.  PA is state that HRC was supposed to win and that's indisputable.  She wasn't Rocky, she was Apollo Creed. Going into late March, some polls had Hillary as high as 20% or more.  Sen. Obama was the underdog and I don't think anyone here expected him to win.  We all hoped and wished he would, but realistically we were all hoping it wasn't HRC by a blowout.

During her speech tonight, she was harping on how Sen. Obama outspent her 3 to 1.  Which, I found to be sort of low-class.  It was her way of indirectly telling her supporters, "Your vote isn't enough, cough up some cash too!".
Her campaign currently treading water, so to speak, with $10M worth of debt and just $9M Cash On hand, and some folks complaining that they still haven't been paid then throw in former supporters saying that HRC Camp won't stop withdrawing money from their bank accounts.

It's obvious, that HRC and McCain are both having some trouble raising funds.  Yet, Sen. Obama is able to raise more than $1M per day which will pay for many Indiana and North Carolina ads such as these:

and:

Now, Sen. Obama may have indirectly won alot in PA without winning the Primary.  Team HRC is having trouble in the funds department, which is crucial for her. She needs all that money to start the negative ad wars.  Also, HRC may not be able to run Republican scare tactics for long periods and invoke Osama Bin Laden without those funds.

Barack Obama had $42 million for primary at start of April to Hillary Rodham Clinton's $9 million.

Financial reports filed Sunday by the Democratic presidential candidates with the Federal Election Commission show Clinton had $10.3 million in debts at the start of the month and only about $9 million cash on hand for the primaries. Obama reported having $42 million for the primary.

Clinton's red ink poses yet another obstacle to her campaign as she seeks to end the primary season with a string of victories. She trails Obama in delegates, states won and popular votes. And she can't dent Obama's superior fundraising.

Clinton, who had kept pace with Obama financially throughout last year, had even less cash on hand than Republican John McCain. McCain raised $15.2 million in March and had $11.6 million in the bank at the start of April. It was his best fundraising performance of the campaign, coming after he had essentially secured his party's presidential nomination.

With the Democratic contest still in full boil, McCain has been on the sidelines, saving his money and completing payments on a loan.

Nearly half of Clinton's debt in March is money owed to the firm of her demoted former chief strategist, Mark Penn. The report shows that the campaign owes $4.6 million to Penn, Schoen & Berland Associates.

So tonight Sen. Obama may not have won this Battle...but he did win 2 Important skirmishes.  He kept the race under double digits and then HRC is on the ropes begging to donors and even trying the Sen. Obama approach of donating anything, even $5.

Maybe Hillary should listen to Chuck Todd's advice:

Hillary may even net less than 10 for this "win".

So to Barack supporters, I say let's carry on to the next stop.
We must continue to donate, to make those calls, to knock on those doors, to challenge every lie/spin/fabrication and to especially be vigilant of the MSM...and Faux News too.
