A Tidal Wave of support for Obama - superdelegates, Gallup, donors

Clinton was counting on a big win last night to keep the superdelegates at bay.

Despite the media's false claim of a double digit win, Clinton's actual 8.5 - 9.0 point victory in Clinton-friendly Pennsylvania didn't quite cut it.  She netted only 10 pledged delegates.  This hasn't stopped her from claiming that the tide has turned and somehow she now leads the popular vote total.  

In the real world, a TIDAL WAVE of support has formed for Obama.

He received over 38,000 new contributors overnight!

The Gallup poll today shows a solid lead for Obama!  This puts Obama at 50% and Clinton at 42%.  

Additionally, at least 1 major superdelegate has already stepped forward today.

Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry endorsed Obama

"I believe Senator Obama is uniquely positioned to unite our nation and move beyond the divisiveness and partisan skirmishes that too often characterize politics as usual in Washington," - Gov. Brad Henry

The Huffington Post has indicated that several more are ready to come forward today.

Marc Ambinder has hinted that several more are ready to step forward.

49 prominent John Edwards supporters, including Ed Turlington, Edwards’ former National General Chairman, have shifted their support ot Obama.

Barack Obama and John Edwards share a commitment to taking on special interests and standing up for regular Americans."

Sheryl Crow has also endosed Obama today.

    I've been tracking the '# of new donors' ticker for the last week or so...

    He has added 100,000 new donors to his fundraising machine in the last 10 days!

    Current ticker:  1,407,877 now
    April 14 ticker:  1,309,965 (@8pm PDT)

    This includes:
     35,000 new donors in the last 24 hours
     70,000 new donors since the ABC debate

    I'd estimate that even more existing donors have donated again (by a factor of 2 or 3?) in the same period... Using conservative estimates, if 250,000 new & existing donors donated in the last 10 days and their average donation was $60ea ... that's $15 million in 10 days  (and judging by the 'activity' on DailyKos after the ABC debate, this estimate is likely quite low.)  $15m in 10 days.  Without as much as lifting a finger.

        the Obama estimate is very conservative. His average donation is $90, so if that holds, $90 * 250,000 = 22.5m.  (The 250,000 is conservative too)

        She's getting buried.  It is shameful that she continues to mislead people into contributing to her campaign.  I mean, seriously, was the 12 delegates from Pennsylvania worth it to her?  Obama won +12 delegates in Idaho...

        Seriously: does anyone believe anything she (or her campaign mouthpieces) say at this point, whether about fundraising or her exalted position as the leader in popular vote, or delegates, or states won (as long as you are willing to ignore the same things she chooses to ignore, of course)? Please.

        I suspect that this is merely another misstatement, or perhaps the result of fatigue (or sniper fire). It certainly is a desperate attempt to try to use those free gosh-CNN-loves-me hype minutes to appear viable to the handful of gullible folks who might still be willing to flush cash down the tubes in her general direction.

        Sorry, not buying it. But your mileage may vary.

    They're giving Hillary her 24- to 48-hour victory dance. They don't want to be accused of rushing in in the wake of her "victory" and squashing her "momentum" ... give it a day or two and they'll start swinging to Obama in bigger numbers. This is clearly her last hurrah, so let's all take the high road and let her have it. Tomorrow, or Friday at the latest, I expect to see a tide of SDs going to Obama.

    If he can pick up an additional one or maybe even two today, then that bodes really ill for HRC.
