Shall we play a game? OK, me first.
The name of tonight’s game is: What’s Wrong With These People?
It is gardening day at the farm. Today I moved seedlings into the transplanting pots that will eventually go into the garden. Rather than using peat pots, I make my own from newspapers. They are bigger, they are free, and they – along with the compost I use for planting – fulfill my mantra: reduce, reuse, recycle. It’s fairly mindless work, and I had the television on in the background. Suddenly, an ad caught my attention. WWWTP?
Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich came on with an ad about the importance of "doing something" about global climate change. It’s a clever little ad campaign that plays on the "opposites agree" theme. I had seen the other commercial on that theme with Al Sharpton and Pat Robertson, so I knew kinda what to expect. First they explained the importance of the problem. (I agree.) Then Newt exhorted us to "get involved." (It took him long enough to decide that, but at least he came around.) Finally, Nancy came on and told me to "contact our leaders and tell them to do something about the climate crisis." WTF?

Last night during his excellent interview on Bill Moyers Journal,Rev. Jeremiah Wright responded to a question about media behavior:
REVEREND WRIGHT: The church members have been upset by behavior of some of the media; picking up church bulletins to get the names and addresses and phone numbers of the sick and shut-in, calling them to try to get stories. One lady they called in hospice.
Hospice? HOSPICE!!??! They called a woman in HOSPICE to badger her about Wright!
WWWTP?
And, if that wasn’t good enough...
REVEREND WRIGHT: And our members know they're only doing it because of the political campaign. What have we gotten into here? People threatening, you know, Christians, some of 'em, threatening us, quoting scripture and telling us how they're going to wipe us off the face of the earth in the name of Jesus
BILL MOYERS: There have been death threats?
REVEREND WRIGHT: Yes, there have. At, both on myself and on Pastor Moss, and bomb threats at the church.
