I Don't Give a Rat's Ass About...

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 08:39:20 PM PDT

It’s no secret that this country’s news media swallowed a big fat stupid pill at some point in the past. But Christ almighty... I’ve about had it.  We must be at the point where "the press" is jumping the proverbial shark.  I’m an avowed news junkie... have been since I can remember.  But I don’t watch TV news much anymore.  I can’t stand it.  Why...? Because...

I don’t give a rat’s ass about Reverend Jeremiah Wright  ... or Reverend John Hagee, for that matter.  In fact, I don't give a rat's ass about a hell-of-a-lot of other things...

I don’t give a rat’s ass about who wears flag lapels... or who does what during the pledge of allegiance.

I don’t give a rat’s ass who thinks I am bitter...(and I'm getting damn bitter... let me tell you)... or who is or isn't an elitist.

I don’t give a rat’s ass about bowling scores... or who most people would want to have a beer with. And like it would be that great tipping a cold one with the dry drunk currently residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue...

I don’t give a rat’s ass about a candidate’s cackle... or their scream... or their clothes... or if they sigh. In fact...  I don't even give a shit about the price of their damned haircut.  I must be the most Godless unpatriotic son-of-a-bitch to ever live so ungratefully here in the land of the free.

Christ... these are things our shit-for-brains political press corps thinks are the most important items they should be reporting on as we try to pick our next President during these trying times??????????

I don’t give a rat’s ass about almost every damn thing that’s being reported as news from the campaign anymore.  And the sad thing is... the "I don’t give a rat’s ass about" list above is far from complete!

Hell... just label me bitter... because the things I care about are simply not sexy enough to make the campaign news.  Oh... the candidates may try to talk about such things... but the talking heads don’t give a rat’s ass about any of this country’s pressing issues. Things like...

... our tanking economy,

... our ballooning national debt, (and the fool who wants to add to the debt by making the tax cuts permanent)

... our Iraq mess... simply a no win situation,

... our national shame brought about by condoning torture... starting directly from the White House on down,

... our deteriorating military

... the mistreatment of our veterans,

... our failure to lead on climate change

... the need to think about our daily bread...

... record oil prices...who is profiting...and who is not,

And unfortunately... this list is also far from complete... and who can keep track of all the messes???  The news media... maybe????

Hello out there you shit-for-brains news ombudsmen... hear my message loud and clear:

I DON’T GIVE A RAT"S ASS ABOUT ANYTHING YOU PEOPLE ARE REPORTING ON WITH REGARDS TO THIS CAMPAIGN... START DOING YOUR JOB!!!!!!!!!!

There... got that off my chest.  So... maybe you feel the same way?    What don’t you give a rat’s ass about (but has the gasbags all atwitter)????

But MOST of all, I don't give a rat's ass (or a snake's ass, or a warm little puppy's ass) about Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

I was out of computer/radio/TV range this weekend and felt totally out of touch, so this morning I turned Morning Joe on with the mute button just in case it looked like there might be anything interesting.  When I saw that Joe was gone and Mika was running it, I turned on the sound.  MISTAKE.  I think about 85% of what she was saying was channeling Joe's usual questions about how this is going to hurt Obama.  I left it on because I kept thinking she would finish and move on to something else, but she never did. Thank God they finally cut to his speech so I didn't have to listen to her yammer on about him any more.

It was a really good speech, I thought.

  •  I agree (0+ / 0-)

Most people, unfortunately, only get their information from these assholes in the press.  #2 source are friends and family (whose information source are the aforementioned assholes). #3 source are general impressions. #4 and unlikeliest source are the campaigns themselves.

Obama needs to address this wright crap head on, forcefully and publically. I fear that leaving that church may be the only play left to survive. Super delegates will swing Clinton's way if obama does not handle this.

the cable news channels while on the road and every channel has almost the same Reverend Wright story being played and played and re-played without end. I tried to find some news on the recent earthquake in Nevada, if in fact there was one. I'm not sure because there has been no mention of it. I only heard it mentioned second-hand. The national cable news stations are engaged in trivializing the news to the point of turning it into some sort of national gossip column. As fascinating as this story has become to the pointy-headed nabobs of the news shows, it is totally irrelevant. Jeremiah Wright is not running for any political office. His views are about as important to the national discourse as some drunk's sitting in a cheap hotel bar bending the bartender's ear. The media is collectively contemplating its navel and attempting to convince the public that its incessant mental masturbation is somehow newsworthy and not just some lunatic obsession bordering on total insanity.

  •  Yes indeed: (0+ / 0-)

His (Wright's) views are about as important to the national discourse as some drunk's sitting in a cheap hotel bar bending the bartender's ear.

While they are at it... they should look up Norm over at the local Cheers...
