Jimmy Carter supporting Obama?

Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 01:59:56 PM PDT

I just read an AP story which quotes Jimmy Carter as saying his children and grandchildren are supporting Obama and that he "would not disclose who I am rooting for, but I leave you to make that guess." As far as I know, this is the first indication of Carter's preference between Senators Clinton and Obama, and it's very big news. It's also another example of the younger generation influencing an older generation, which we saw recently with Senator Bob Casey in Pennsylvania.

It's brief and done in haste but hopefully it's sufficient.

short diaries that bring me news I would not find on my own.

Kork summarized the story nicely and provided the link. I prefer this to some of the verbose diaries that I do not have time for.

Not that they should go away -- they are very valuable.

It's just that I don't always have time to read them. I think we should welcome short diaries that help us assess the political landscape efficiently.

    Thanks Korkenzieher!

Jimmy Carter talked about a recent call from Bill Clinton:

Mr. Carter also said he talked by telephone at length on Monday with former President Bill Clinton, who was "trying to explain that he was not raising the race issue" on the campaign trail. Mr. Carter said the phone call was to finalize speaking arrangements for Mr. Clinton's appearance at a meeting organized by Mr. Carter of moderate Baptists in Atlanta beginning Wednesday. But much of the conversation dwelt on the presidential campaign, Mr. Carter said.

In an interview with WSJ's Doug Blackmon, former President Jimmy Carter says Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign has been extraordinary and titillating.
Mr. Clinton "has said a few things that I think he wishes he hadn't said," Mr. Carter said. "He doesn't call me often, but the fact that he called me this morning and spent a long time explaining his position indicates that it's troublesome to them, the adverse reaction."
