Let’s Just Buy Her Out !

Sat May 10, 2008 at 09:16:34 AM PDT

By that I mean, progressives should raise 12 million and quietly dangle it in front of Clinton. That’s about how much she’s loaned her campaign.

We pay off all your debts. You commit to x number of campaign days at Obama’s side.

More below fold:

How else will she recover that money at this point? And don’t think money’s not important to her or her corrupted husband.

It may sound like a lot of money, but I know enough Obama supporters might join in and make it a reality.

We could raise the money with a proviso that to get it, Obama must approve. If she takes this to the convention, then the money would go to Obama.

If OBAMA supporters pay off Clinton's debt, why should Clinton supporters still vote for McSame out of spite?

Talk about the POWER that would give netroots if we could actually pull this off online.

Anyone interested?

  •  The Clintons? Scroom! Both of them! (0+ / 0-)

    •  Not one penny of anyone contribution (0+ / 0-)

to BHO Can go to HRC's funds, this is what BHO can do

Host fund raisers, yes (JMC for Giuliani)
Ask supporters to contribute to your opponent, yes (Mittens for JMC)
Transfer money to your opponent BIG NO

there are several diaries  on this subject b/c is illegal

The whole idea  is a media circle jerk just like the "dream ticket"

And is hurting BHO fund raising.

      What you are proposing is:

      1. an ActBlue/MoveOn style fund raising
      1. is most likely illegal, I doubt that after collecting funds on his/her name anyone can bribe a candidate to federal office with said funds in exchange of said candidate dropping out, and nobody could contribute more that $2300 individually to a candidate
      1. even is could be construed as legal is unethical, is a bribe by another name
      1. Last but not least how do you try to bribe somebody? with a lot more money that he/she could possible make on his/her own, ergo $12M will not change their mind

I sincerely suggest the diarist to check election law  and correct or delete as needed.

  •  Imo we should never show weakness, (0+ / 0-)

the repubs are like pit bulls, they can smell it a mile away.

Buying her out is a sign of weakness, imo.

  •  somehow that looks like a bribe to me. (0+ / 0-)

when you include the tag "pay off" it seems to fit the definition, too.

    just sayin.

  •  to think Obama would have to pay (0+ / 0-)

for those commercials used against him, the ones that slimed him, the ads that painted him as 'not ready on day 1', the ones that slandered him.

If it ended this and made her go away, ok....

  •  If that's the price, yes. (1+ / 0-)

Look, it's not at all uncommon for the victor in a primary contest to pay off the campaign debts of a defeated opponent.  What it says, essentially, is that the money was raised to support the primary contest itself - to give voters the best chance to see all candidates and make a reasoned choice.

"But I was giving money to support Barack Obama, not to pay off Hillary's debts."

Okay, so if paying off Hillary's debts will make it easier for her to concede - thus making Barack the Democratic nominee - isn't that "supporting" him?

Yes, if Hillary would agree to concede in exchange for Barack paying off her campaign debts, I'm all for it.  It would go a long way toward healing the party and ensuring that a year from now we're all talking about President Barack Obama.

    •  **A question? (0+ / 0-)

She's going to have to concede at some point anyway, so why should we pay for it?  I want to poke my brain with a stick when it considers my hard earned money going into the pockets of Mark Penn (one of her biggest debts is his outstanding fees.)

**Yeah, I'm mad! I've been paying attention.

most of Obama's supporters are never going to be worth $109 million, let alone $12 million.

Why should any hard-working, over-taxed and underserved citizen pay extortion money to a 62-year-old spoiled brat?

  •  She doesn't need to be bought out (0+ / 0-)

Her money will dry up and many of her supporters will move on to other things.  She will eventually quit on her own.  It's Mike Gravel that we really need to worry about.  He is still in, isn't he?

  •  Her campaign debt is (0+ / 0-)

around 25 million which includes the 12 million she lent herself.
