Soldiers on 15-month Iraq tours won't get tax rebate

Sat May 10, 2008 at 09:14:55 AM PDT

Once again, the lie that it's only Republicans who support the troops is exposed:

Many soldiers missing out on Bush's stimulus checks

In August 2006 the 10th Mountain Division, 2nd BCT, 1-89 Cavalry was sent to Iraq for 12 months. In April 2007, the troops were told the Army was adding three additional months to their time in country.

In November 2007 the troopers of 1-89 arrived back in New York from their tour. They are now being told by the IRS, via the IRS Web site, that they haven't earned enough money to qualify for the economic stimulus check.

One would think, after the Walter Reed Hospital scandal and other abuses of our military, that the conservatives would have learned that our troops have earned more than the country can ever pay them and that military members should be included automatically in every stimulus event.

Where is the support for the troops?

Jeff Stephan, Peyton

One would think, except for the fact that lying Republicans are the ones who always claim to "support" our troops, and then do as little for our troops as possible.

And as usual, they'll probably get away with it as our side plays nice and our troops go without.

too busy to spend it....Where could they go shopping for instance? Where would they vacation? How would it help our economy if they spent it in Iraq? Look, President Bush is only thinking of the good of the entire country...a great leader like that is someone we should just trust on these important issues.

  •  I'm shocked. SHOCKED I SAY! (0+ / 0-)

Impeachment is too fecking good for these asshats.

I think we should take up a very public collection for these soldiers, and use it as an opportunity to show the entire world the utter disdain the Bush administration has for our troops.

all military pay earned in a combat zone is tax exempt?  Unless a soldier has additional income from a source outside of a combat zone, he/she wouldn't meet the minimum income threshold prescribed in the law passed by Congress.  The law made exceptions for those receiving tax-exempt VA disability payments, but I haven't heard anything about an exemption for
combat-zone military personnel.  BTW people, the Bush administration can't be blamed for everything!  Let's blame them for the many problems they created, not everything under the sun.
