Senator Clinton Proposes Adding New State to Primary Calendar

Hillary's campaign has a new strategy for victory.  

How should Obama respond to this?

"We need a fighter, someone who is not going to forget about the little people, people in states like West Virginia, Kentucky, and Baja California," a confident sounding Hillary Clinton declared today.   On the stump in Parkersburg, West Virginia today, Bill Clinton sounded a similar note:  "Barack Obama wants to pretend this thing is over.  He doesn't want to listen to Baja California voters.  But Hillary says that you can't disenfranchise two million voters."  Chief Clinton campaign strategist Geoff Garin added that the Clinton campaign estimates that adding Baja California to the Democratic primary calendar would put approximately 40 delegates up for grabs.  Hillary Clinton would expect to do particularly well with the Hispanic vote there, Garin suggested, potentially causing a significant shift in delegate math in Clinton's favor.  A spokesman for the Obama campaign said that the proposal was 'unlikely' to be adopted.  

 

Obama is in a bind here, as he can't afford to alienate the Hispanic vote.  Perhaps dispatching Bill Richardson to Tijuana would help?

      Umm... a little off.  The country's official name is "Estados Unidos de Mexico".  It is not, never has been, and may well never be "Republc of Mexico".  It is a federal set-up (as is the USA) - - that's why they are called "federales" (the national police).

      The TxDOT state road maps still show it as "Republic of Mexico", I think.  Just incorrect, is all.

    Baja California is the part of California that wasn't annexed by the U.S. after the Mexican War.

    It's a peninsula comprised of two Mexican states.  Baja California Norte and Baja California Sur.  It takes a couple days to drive from end to end.

    It's remarkably beautiful, and aside from the Tijuana area (bigger in population than neighboring San Diego) and the resort towns at the other end, remarkably remote.  The long-standing peninsula has resulted in the evolution of a lot of endemics, and it's botanically outstanding in diversity and beauty.  It's obvious to people who have visited Baja that the landscapes of Dr. Seuss were inspired by his visits down south.

    Making fun of someone is not hate.  Hate is a pretty strong sentiment.  And I'd be hard-pressed to say I hate anyone.  As much damage as George W Bush has done to this this country, I don't think I can really say that I hate him.

    I do think that Hillary Clinton is an asshole.  She earned that distinction when she started saying that she and McCain had passed the threshold to be president but Obama had not.  There was no reason for that.  That was the final straw.  At that point, there was no option but to tag her with a giant A.

    If you really think this is hate, no one can stop you.  I can only hope you eventually realize that holding a view that someone other than Hillary Clinton would be a better president than her does not equate to hate.

      The working class is comprised of all races. Jesse Jackson won the white working class vote because his campaign was based on substance - rather than manufacturing and "finding" racist motives in opponents remarks.
      It also didn't help that Obama told his billionaire donors - Dems weren't voting for him because they are racists, clinging to their guns and religion.
      It's not Hillary's fault they're not voting for Obama.

        of course, Obama has been steadily eating into the so-called white working class voter segment of Hillary's (last) support. Steadily he has been gainging ground among whites, while Hillary has been dramatically losing ground among blacks (do they still count?). Hillary (and Bill) have been constantly marginalizing the black vote and now she consistently gets what (?), 20% or lower in that segment? It's not Obama's fault they're not voting for Hillary.
